LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Hollywood actress who is more famous for her traffic mishaps and run-ins with the law may have cast herself in her most challenging role yet: a Mitt Romney supporter.
Lohan voiced her support for the Republican candidate and former Massachusetts governor last Friday, reportedly telling Fox News that “I think unemployment is very important for now, so as of now I think [my vote] is for Mitt Romney.”
She added, “It’s a long story, but you’re going to have to wait for that.”
Her apparent change of heart comes after voting for President Barack Obama in 2008 – a reversal that Los Angeles Times celebrity blogger Christie D’Zurilla said is a far cry from the Hollywood political mainstream.
“You don’t see a lot of people in the entertainment industry stepping out and stepping up behind the GOP,” said D’Zurilla.
With the endorsement, Lohan joins an unlikely group of celebrity Romney supporters including actress Stacey Dash, porn star Jenna Jameson and singer Kid Rock.
In September, Lohan asked Obama on Twitter to cut taxes “for those that are listed on Forbes as ‘millionaires’ if they are not, you must consider that as well”.
But like Dash – who was called an “idiot” and other insults after announcing her support for the Romney campaign – Lohan has also become a target of ridicule on Twitter.

Reaction on the social networking site has been less than favorable towards the “Mean Girls” actress, with at least one user urging Lohan to “kill yourself”.
