Obama says debate prep 'going great'

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – President Obama is making no more jokes about how much he dislikes debate prep.

Asked by a reporter during a pop-in at a Williamsburg campaign office how his studying is going, the president responded with a quick: “It is going great!”

The difference is palpable compared to what he told supporters outside Las Vegas while studying for his calamitous Denver debate.

“Basically they're keeping me indoors all the time," Obama said then. "It's a drag. They're making me do my homework."

If Obama is interested in playing hooky from his debate practice -- where aide Anita Dunn is playing the role of Candy Crowley and Sen. John Kerry is reprising his role as Mitt Romney -- he doesn’t have to go far. The president’s hotel here, the posh Kingsmill Resort, is also hosting a Ferrari car show Sunday.

The day’s message from Team Obama continues the campaign’s vow of contrition from the first debate and vows to do better Tuesday night at Hofstra University on Long Island.

“The president is his own harshest critic and he knows Mitt Romney had a better night at the first debate,” campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. “The American people should expect to see a much more energized President Obama making a passionate case for why he is a better choice for the middle class.”

Anita Dunn is still an aide? I thought she left in disgrace a couple of years ago. How’d she get back into the fold - or did she not really leave after all?

Huh. I guess debate prep time is a time where I’d prefer Obama be golfing.

Anita Dunn: "The third lesson and tip actually comes from two of my favorite political philosophers, Mao Tse Tung and Mother Teresa. Not often coupled with each other, but the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is: You're going to make choices. ... But here's the deal: These are your choices; they are no one else's.

"In 1947, when Mao Tse Tung was being challenged within his own party on his own plan to basically take China over, Chiang Kai-Shek and the nationalist Chinese held the cities, they had the army. ... They had everything on their side. And people said 'How can you win? How can you do this against all of the odds against you?'

"And Mao Tse Tung says, 'You fight your war and I'll fight mine.' You don't have to accept the definition of how to do things. ... You fight your war, you let them fight theirs. Everybody has their own path."..."

[The following is NOT from Anita Dunn. It's from the author of the linked CNS News article...]

Policies implemented under Mao Tse Tung, including the civil war, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and persecution in Tibet, among other policies, led to death of an estimated 65 million people, according to The Black Book of Communism (Harvard University Press), which is considered by scholars as one of the best sources on communist atrocities.

Mao also outlawed religion and sent at least 2.5 million people to “re-education camps,” called “laogai,” which were similar to the slave-labor camps in the Gulag of the Soviet Union. An estimated 1,000 laogai reportedly are still in operation today

Golf or study ... golf or study ...

I know my 18-year-old wouldn’t choose studying!

"Kerry pretending to be a conservative is almost as funny as Romney pretending to be one."

Kerry is placing his hopes on Obama winning. Kerry desires the Secretary of State of job and hopes Obama will give it to when he wins the election. Kerry -- such a poodle.

Obama is at the Kingsmill Resort on the James River near Williamsburg. It is adjacent to the Bud brewery and across the river from a nuclear power plant. I was sailing on the Chesapeake today and all day the Coast Guard was broadcasting an exclusion zone stating that no boats would be allowed to enter the zone around the Kingsmill Marina docks. Bummer.

Exactly what I’ve been thinking as someone, like a heck of a lot of Americans , who works day after day in mostly windowless offices for long hours. He is preparing for a critical event in his life and can’t even knuckle down for three days? One thing that Romney’s going to out- perform every President in my memory is just hard work
