President Obama's bringing in The Boss.
On Thursday, Bruce Springsteen will join former president Bill Clinton at an Obama rally in Parma, Ohio. The campaign announced later that the iconic New Jersey rocker would add another stop that same day in Ames, Iowa.
Springsteen is no stranger to Democratic rallies. The weekend before election day in 2008, he warmed up a crowd of 80,000 people at an Obama event in Cleveland. Four years prior, Springsteen took part in a similar rally for Sen. John Kerry. Tuesday will be his first campaign event in this election cycle.
"Bruce Springsteens values echo what the president and vice president stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina told Ohio's The Plain Dealer. "His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support."
Polls show the race in Ohio is tightening. As National Journal's Major Garrett reported on Wednesday, "The gap has closed from what was an 8 to 10 point Obama lead to just outside the margin of error." Consequently, Democrats are redoubling efforts there. Real Clear Politics's average of polls has Obama up by 1.3 points in the state.
In Iowa, Obama also has seen his lead shrink, according to polls.
No word on which songs Springsteen might be playing at either show -- or whether Clinton will join in on sax.
Amen brother
Bruce Springsteen and his signature song sum up the irony of it all. Bruce Springsteen is a multimillionaire who masquerades as a working man, Obama never born in the USA masquerading as a natural born duly elected American president.
One has-been trying to prop up another. Ask most folks in the Gen Y about him and the response will be “Bruce who?”
Folks, put your memory caps on. Remember when an endorsement from Bill Clinton was radioactive and useless. Clinton is not going to save Obama, and....Bruce Springsteen is worth zero impact in producing votes and support for Obama!!! End of story!!!
Born in the USA, maybe. But not an American.
Classic.
I saw Woody Guthrie’s display at the R&R hall of fame and he was a card carrying communist.
He and Pete wrote good songs but were deep red commies
Yup. That’s real Ohio attitude.
He ain't my boss.
Never did like the guy.
Oooooooo. What a way to pump up the over 60 crowd, Obozo! NOT!
I was working at the Bush campaign headquarters in Columbus in 2004. GWB was in town for the final leg of the campaign. His nephew stopped by and media was everywhere. Springsteen was also in town for Kerry. A reporter asked me some questions and one of them was “what do you think about the “boss” concert tonight for Kerry?” I replied, “I can’t imagine what a has been rockstar could possibly say that would have an impact on a presidential election.” The interview made the evening news!
Media is saying Obama is winning/locked Ohio and Iowa, then why they need Bruce?
Romney is drawing thousands without the help of a has been singer. Obama couldn’t even fill the original venue of his own convention
Just think, Bruce, if you grew up in Obama’s America, you sure wouldn’t be wealthy!
I can tell you this.
Every kid in Ohio knew how to play Funk 48/49.
I never saw any one say Hey! Let’s jam some Sprinklesteen crap!
Worst song of all time — Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Bruce Springsteen. Terrible, horrible, painful, causes the dogs to whimper, whine and howl. Should be used to torture terrorists and our enemies.
This song really shows how crappy a singer Bruce is. The guy can’t hold a tune if his life depended on it. He is probably more of a lyricist. But damn, he can’t sing!
My wife and I had dinner years ago with his E-street band drummer after a show. I forget his name. He was a real dick.
Yah. Rides Again remains in my all time top ten favorite albums.
Why isn’t Hugo Chavez jumping in to help us with low price fuel oil anymore?
