WASHINGTON (AP) Anyone who paid attention to a hearing in Congress this week knew that the administration had been implored to beef up security at the U.S. Consulate in Libya before the deadly terrorist attack there. But in the vice presidential debate Thursday night, Joe Biden seemed unaware.
"We weren't told they wanted more security there," the vice president asserted flatly. During a night in which Biden and Republican rival Paul Ryan both drifted from the facts on a range of domestic and foreign issues, that was a standout.
A look at some of their claims:
BIDEN: "Well, we weren't told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security again. And by the way, at the time we were told exactly we said exactly what the intelligence community told us that they knew. That was the assessment. And as the intelligence community changed their view, we made it clear they changed their view."
RYAN: "There were requests for more security."
THE FACTS: Ryan is right, judging by testimony from Obama administration officials at the hearing a day earlier.
Charlene R. Lamb, a deputy assistant secretary for diplomatic security, told lawmakers she refused requests for more security in Benghazi, saying the department wanted to train Libyans to protect the consulate. "Yes, sir, I said personally I would not support it," she said.
Eric Nordstrom, who was the top security official in Libya earlier this year, testified he was criticized for seeking more security. He said conversations he had with people in Washington led him to believe that it was "abundantly clear we were not going to get resources until the aftermath of an incident. How thin does the ice have to get before someone falls through?"
He said his exasperation reached a point..

I have read Biden’s lies described as “slips”, “fibbs”, “misstatements”. No one seems willing to call them BIG FAT DELIBERATE LIES!!!!
Funny how the author of the article failed to point out that JackASS Joe voted for the wars he claimed he didn’t vote for.
I thought that was the biggest one. You can make the case that a lot of them are simply a difference of opinion, or just a bit misleading.
This one was a whopper. And, the Republicans should be hanging it around his neck. I know they don't want to reopen this issue, but I'm getting tired of the left blaming the right for Iraq and Afghanistan. It was a bipartisan decision. There wasn't a single no vote in the Senate, and I think there was only one or two no votes in the House.
It's time to stop the left from rewriting history.
Uncle Joe also stated that Syria is 5 times the size of Afghanistan!
In truth, Afghanistan is @ 9 times larger than Syria.

Hey dipwad, how about keeping security UNTIL THEY ARE TRAINED. And even then, you want LIBYANS to protect OUR PEOPLE? Yeah, that worked out great the trusting them and all.
Actually, there was no debate last Thursday. A debate is when two groups and a moderator get together and ‘debate’ opposing issues in an orderly fashion. The moderator negected her duty by letting one of the debators (Biden) to get out of hand, interupt the discussion like a circus clown, not allowing the opposition to make his point, and demagoguing the discussion. The moderator was fully responsible for allowing this to happen. The American people where cheated. Since this was not a debate, but a comedy show suited only for late night TV Saturday Night Live, there were no winners, and no loosers, eccept the American people. What this did show was the bigger picture, -the difference between d’RAT’s and Republicans. Allowing the American voters to decide, who would you prefer to lead this county out of chos and destitution, a bunch of clowns from Comedy Central, or leaders that take leading this country seriously?????
Thank you, I thought I heard that.
