Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the United States must continue sending diplomats and aid workers to the Arab world's emerging democracies, despite last month's deadly attack in Libya.
Speaking to a Washington think tank, Clinton says the U.S. cannot retreat from dangerous countries and that Americans remain leaders in "hard places where America's interests and values are at stake."
She called support for the Muslim world's democratic transitions a "strategic necessity."
Clinton's address at the Center for Strategic and International Studies comes as Republicans are criticizing the Obama administration for the Sept. 11 Benghazi attack that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

As Republicans heap criticism on Vice President Joe Biden for claiming "we weren't told" about requests for extra security at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday the precise details of the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the compound in Libya still remain unclear.
One month after the attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, Clinton said the administration is committed to uncovering the truth about what happened.
"There is much we still don't know and I am the first to say that," Clinton told reporters at the State Department after meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi.
"But as someone who has been at the center of this tragedy from the beginning, I do know this: there is nobody in this administration motivated by anything other than trying to understand what happened," she said.

"Ambassador Rice had the same information from the intelligence community as every other senior official did," Clinton said.

And we wonder why all the billions we spend in foreign aid fail to give us positive results. Stupid in, stupid out.... Romney should fire the entire State Department.
Charlotte Lamb - she admits she refused the request for more security.
I disagree. Her boss, one Baraq Hussein mohammed 0bama, who prances around patting himself on the back for other people's actions and bowing and scraping to every third world dictator and potentate he can find, bears responsibility, if for nothing else, his position in the chain of command. If the truth be told, and it definitely won't be in this regime, 0bama probably gave directions that embassies in the Middle East were to "soft peddle" security in order to show our "respect" and "trust" for his muzzie bros. The Beast, when given the request for more security, couldn't be bothered and didn't want to challenge Hussein's orders and since she has already said she is leaving the job in January, she was probably preoccupied and thought she'd just leave it for the next guy.
BOTH SHOULD BE IMPEACHED AND STAND TRIAL!
just because they have elections doesn’t mean they are democracies. Even Hitler’s Germany had elections.
Obama/Clinton live in a dream world not associated with reality.
Well Iraq is and technically now Egypt.... but a Democracy in an Islamic Republic means very little. A Republic is for the purpose of preventing the perversions of democracy... An Islamic Republic by definition can not protect the minority.
“Arab democracy”, One man. One vote. One time.
Hillary’s first response was “how could this happen in a country we liberated?”
Democracies suck and that is why we are not one.
An Arab democracy is 2 rag heads and a Jew voting on who shall be beheaded.
It is a democracy and that is exactly what is wrong with democracy.
-——— that is why we are not one-——
Except in California where they have a Tyrannical Democracy. They vote on everything and then the Tyrant Judge destroys the voted proposition
>>Even Hitlers Germany had elections.
As did Stalin’s USSR. Heck, Chavez just held an election in Venezuela. Didn’t mean a thing, other than to idiot Jimmy Carter types.
CLINTON: US MUST STICK BY ARAB WORLD’S DEMOCRACIES... except the democracy we helped establish in Iraq!
Just what do they mean by democracy? After all North Korea is a democracy so is Cuba and Sudan.
