Elections are less likely to be decided by debates than by a handful of images engraved in voters' minds. The possibility persists that President Obama might win this battle of images -- and thus the election -- by relentlessly depicting Mitt Romney as rich, out of touch, and uncaring, a caricature amplified by endless repetition of Romney's "47 percent" tape by the Obama campaign, with ample help from his devoted media.
On September 25, for example, long after it was news, all three networks reported on how the damaging video simply won't go away (no doubt because they won't stop showing it). They magnified its effect in various ways: showing Obama mocking Romney's comment in a speech, showing Romney being interrogated about it, and reporting that Obama ads about the video are being run in swing states, as an excuse to show it yet again. The media's brazenness reached a new level when, a mere hour after the October 3 debate, Nightline showed the video repeatedly, no doubt having expected Obama to have mentioned it. The next day, the NBC, ABC, NBC, and PBS evening news featured the Romney tape in reporting the "news" that Obama surprisingly had not brought it up. (Romney's recent declaration that his comment was "completely wrong" is unlikely to make a difference in coverage by a media that is determined to defeat him.)
Yet the attacks can be overcome and the media filter can be bypassed. Just as Romney's use of ruthlessly negative ads knocked Gingrich and Santorum out of the primaries, defeating Obama requires countering the 47 percent video with far more devastating tapes in which Obama has been revealed...

At the top of the list is the chilling video of Obama whispering secret assurances of future flexibility to former Russian President Medvedev...

Romney’s reference was to the 47% who DON’T pay taxes. He then proceeded to characterize them as whiners and leaches. This number is correct but includes retirees living on the social security benefit they earned, military men and others on legitimate disability, and people earning too little to have enough income to pay taxes. For example, a family of four can have an Adjusted Gross Income of $26,400 before they would have to pay taxes, and that is before added credits for things like child care or education are considered. A couple could earn $19,000 before paying taxes. This would be over $9 an hour for a 40 hour work week for a husband with a homemaker wife. I doubt that people in these groups would be feeling sorry for themselves or demanding a government handout. I read that people outside the above kinds of category account for only 7% of the population. If you add up the people in prison, or mental care facilities, or moderately to severely retarded, that would account for a large portion of that 7%. That group probably does not vote for Obama or Romney or anyone.
I am beginning to wonder if Al Qaeda is borrowing from the Reagan playbook when he decided to force the Soviets to spend themselves to death. If Romney is elected and then follows through with his military stance and possible plans for Syria and Iran, we will have big military bills. Since it has been reported here at FR that Zawahiri was probably the motivator behind the Benghazi attack, I can imagine him being just that devious.
Thanks for the pics. We’ve been reminded every day over the last four years, what a despicable louse Obama is, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded yet again, what we’re up against.
I too wish this election was over and zer0 and his crowd had been dragged from D.C. and told to never come back. zer0 and his crowd have made the world a much more dangerous place for all Americans. When it is over, may God have smiled on our nation once more. If God turns His back ... plan on the next four years to be close to being Hades.
I don’t know who will win the election. There was a quick poll of 500 uncommitted viewers of the VP debate tonight, and 50% said Biden won, and 34% said Ryan won, with 16% saying it was a tie. Don’t know how much this will help Obama though.
Meanwhile, back to the serious stuff. ;-) I wonder if there is a specific goal of taking out Zawahiri, the number 2 Al Qaeda guy and probably the active director since bin Laden went into hiding 6 years ago. Killing him just before the election would be a real mind blower.
zer0 and his crowd are beyond anything helping in their reelection efforts. The zer0 crowd have shown their hatred for America and the American people continuously. zer0 and his crowd passed out obamaphones to show their love. How about the zer0 crowd go to work on creating jobs and controlling their spending. The coming tax hikes on the middle class should be enough to vote these creatures out of office. Then there is inflation, no jobs, removal of God given rights, potential UN taxation, foreign agents within high offices placed there by this administration, promises to putin to be more flexible after the election, potentially greater wars, it goes on and on and on with this zer0 crowd. How any American could think of voting for four more years of what is presently taking place is beyond me. And now on to the important stuff....
zer0 doesn't like removing al quaeda or the moslem brotherhood from power, zer0 helps them to gain power. The Military has been doing its job very well, in-spite of the zer0 crowds' impediments. We lost an Ambassador, and several other good Men because zer0 refused and hilary refused to provide more security for our Ambassador and those good Men. zer0 does not care about our Military; zer0 and hilary hate our Military. If he is reelected watch for the CUTS he and the demonRATS will make to our Military and this nation's security. It will be tragic followed by upheaval upon our nation never witnessed in our lifetimes. The choice before our nation is clear. Help the enemies of America by voting FOR zer0 and his crowd or vote them out. Because I LOVE America, I will vote to remove zer0's crowd, and pray doing so will be enough. I do not love Mr. Romney though will vote for him because there is no other choice to keep America strong for what is to come.
