What would Obama’s Supreme Court look like?...(Disaster for America perhaps?)
Yahoo News ^ | 10/10/12 | Liz Goodwin

Whoever wins the election this fall may be in a position to radically change the ideological makeup of the Supreme Court, a legacy that far outlasts a four-year term. On Wednesday, the nine justices will hear oral arguments over whether and in what ways universities can use the race of applicants as a deciding factor in admissions. Just nine years ago, the Court upheld race in admissions in a 5-4 vote when swing justice Sandra Day O'Connor joined the liberal wing of the court for the decision. O'Connor has since been replaced by the much more conservative Samuel Alito, and some judicial experts think the relatively recent decision will be reversed, displaying how quickly court nominations have consequences on the law.

This is the real reason we must all get off our butts and vote in November. This is all Obama would need to destroy individual freedoms forever....A bunch of left wing nut jobs on the supreme court. VOTE like your life depends on it and tell everyone you know the same thing!

“A left-leaning court could alter laws on same-sex marriage, gun rights, affirmative action, campaign finance, property and a whole host of other legal issues we might not even know about yet.”...VOTE out OBAMA!

On another thread here today there is mention of the long-time personal connection between the President and the FCC Chairman, which is another important area where government control should be noted.

Romney refused to use his veto pen as Governor on ciritical issues such as gay marriage. He blamed the liberal judges.

Then he appointed liberal judges at every opportunity.

Obama would be bad, but Romney is no better.

Want to fire Obama, fine, but don't delude yourself into thinking that Romney will be any better.

This is the primary reason I will not vote for Romney under any circumstances.

At most Obama may get to replace a liberal with a liberal. But Romney will all most assuredly get to replace Scalia and Kennedy with liberals as he did in Massachusetts.

I agree 100%.

Also, the writed hit a pet peeve of mine here.
People covering the Supreme Court need to understand and use terminology more carefully.
The writed said the recent decision could be “reversed”.
That’s not really true. That case is over and done. When the SCOTUS reverses a decision that means they are reversing the decision of a lower court.
The writer here should have said that the case might be “overruled”.
That’s the proper word for when the high court overturns its own precedent.

The affirmative action case will tell us whether Roberts has “grown” and therefore gone as a conservative as some have suggested.
I don’t think he is a lost cause just yet, although my disappointment last term was profound.

Let’s get Romney in and hold his feet to the fire.

There is no way in hell Scalia or Kennedy will retire if Obama is reelected they will hang on until a Republican is elected. The real danger is not what 4 more years Obama being reelected can do to the country but what 40 more years of a Romney liberal Supreme Court will do to the country.

It you value life, the 2nd Amendment, the 1st Amendment, private property rights, you cannot rationally support Romney ..

It depends on when Scalia and Kennedy choose to retire. If Romney wins he’s going to want a second term. If those two justices retire early in his first term their replacements will be on the Court and have a record going into the 2016 election. If they turn out to be Liberals, there would certainly be a solid challenge to Romney in the GOP primary and Conservatives would abandon him. And NO incumbent has won reelection following a serious primary challenge in the last what? 50 years? 60? 75?

Just like what happened when Pat Buchannan challenged Bush in 1992. Or Teddy Kennedy challenged Carter in 1980 and Reagan challenged Ford in 1976.

If he wants a second term Romney must govern as a Conservative for his first. That includes who he picks for the Court.

Scalia and Kennedy are no Spring chickens. They may not get to choose when they leave the bench, just like what happened with Rehnquist. There also may not be a winning Republican in 2016, or 2020 or 2024 for that matter, especially given changing demographics and the growth of the entitlement classes.

I don’t like saying this, but I think Romney is the best - possibly only - chance at keeping the Court leaning Conservative.

History shows Justices retire in the first term of their parties election to the presidency. Remember Clinton appointed NO justices in his second term.

As far as holding feet to the fire..give me a break. As long Romney has a R behind his name most so called conservatives will support him no matter how liberal he is...its all about your side winning ...don't you see...

Romney is a liberal. He will appoint liberal justices to the SC. The conservatives will wait out a liberal Dim president so I think it is wise for conservative to vote for a conservative next time around who will appoint conservatives.

Romney is a Trojan horse his election will seal the deal by giving the SC and the country to the liberals.

I wont vote for liberals but I think most conservatives will which is a shame....

History shows different. Particularly 1976 and 1992 when Conservative primary challenges to Moderate/Liberal Republican incumbents dened them reelection.

I have no doubt that if Romney fails to govern as a Conservative that there will be a serious Conservative challenge to him in the primary. By serious I don’t mean that he’ll lose the primary, but rather it will be strong enough to embarass him and deny him the general election. Just as happened in 76 and 92.
