PBS's 'FRONTLINE' interviewed former Barack Obama classmate, Kristen Caldwell. She grew up and attended Punahou School with "Barry" Obama. She recalls how as a young child, Obama alternatively told classmates he was an Indonesian prince or Kenyan royalty.

So yeah, I can picture him as this slightly -- "chubby" is too strong, but rounded, short little guy, Barry Obama. And he told us that his father was an Indonesian king and that he was a prince, and after he finished school he was going to go back, and he would be a ruler in Indonesia. And I absolutely believed him.
I understand that he told his fifth-grade class that he was Kenyan royalty, but I never heard that story until years later. My sister and I remember very clearly that he was an Indonesian prince and that he would be going back there. So there was some reference to where he had come from, and the understanding was his family was there.

Barry Obama, Prince of Thieves.
I love the scene where the locals steal all his stuff off the sidewalk.
He DID NOT need a scholarship. Enrolled in the school shortly after great grandfather Rolla CHarles Payne died and the family moved into the “PentHouse” apartment. It was then that grandmother Madelyn was appointed VP and head of the Trust/Escrow department. He get income from a family trust with her name on it. CHeck out his schedule E form of taxes posted on WH website.

Fictional Detective Ellery Queen lived in Queens, as I recall.
Bit before your time, I take it.
Ok, in all honesty, the mother in my got a little sad here. This little boy had created a delusion to make some sort of sense as to why he was sent to live with his grandparents. Missing his mother, his little sister wasn’t sent away...
We may now have some insight as to when his nut started to crack.
The question is, how did he also go there in kindergarten and third grade? Did he go to Indonesia between third and fifth? If he wasn’t in her third grade, she probably wouldn’t remember him. But why would he go to the same school with new stories about his life?
I told a friend of mine who was writing a book about the deep south culture and as an insurance agent in southside of Atlanta, there are MANY named “King” or even “Master” (so their child has to be referred to as “Master” by white people. “Master Smith, the doctor will see you now.” Even had one who named their kid “Doctor.” No lie.

Went to Jamaica High in the ‘40’s.

Apparently Barry is a composite.
No, he didn’t but he still got one. Maybe SAD got her loose ways from granny. Maybe Punahou thought it’d look good to it’s donors to give one to the little boy from their pet country of Kenya. Maybe Punahou thought it’d look good to have a little “prince” attending and they patted themselves on the back to have “king” daddy give a talk to the school. How many other daddies were invited to talk? Not many, I’m sure. Since this gal classmate didn’t really know about the working part of the scholarship and says they all helped, then little Barry didn’t do any more work on the tennis courts than he’s done in the WH.
Yep, he’s a Kenyan Royal Pain in the ____.
