CARSON CITY Faced with rising costs, Gov. Brian Sandoval is backing off his promise to undo pay cuts imposed on state employees last year.
Gerald Gardner, his chief of staff, said the governor has issued orders to agency heads to continue the reductions in the proposed 2014-15 budget. Gardner told the Nevada Appeal that Sandoval hasn't given up on efforts to undo the work furloughs, pay cuts, and suspension of merit and longevity pay imposed on state workers.

I’m pretty sure you could get rid of every state employee and nobody would notice.
Is that Nevada?
Did not Obama tell all Americans to stay out of Nevada?
Hey, if you Pillow fluffing unions carry that much weight, kiss my toe. My money will go to riverboats.
Don’t cry for me Nevada!
No party stated ... a “D”?
There has been a reduction at the county level. Fewer sheriff deputies....4 days a week working on the road gang...Lower attention to weed control. That might not sound bad to an easterner—but we have Russian Thistles here which dry out & become tumbleweeds—some as large as a Volkswagon Beetle car.
The worst part? Sheila Leslie is running for State office on a platform which includes going after corporations for income taxes. ‘To help the middle class’.
She is a dimwit Democrat. She has been in Nevada for a long time & in politics. She is not recognizing that the ONLY lure for companies to come here is the fact that there is no income tax for people or corporations.
The labor pool isn’t stellar. No motivation, either.
Crime & drugs are rampant...fewer deputies don’t help that.
Education is spotty—too many NON-English speaking students which totally stall out the entire class.
Online teaching is growing fast here.
Gasoline prices are also a problem. There are only 3 large cities in Nevada—Las Vegas—Reno—Carson City.
Everything else is small & very spread out. I drive 24 miles one way to get groceries. $5 gasoline is a complete job killer here. Companies come here because they can run a more efficient operation without union interference & with no income taxes.
Some of those companies can move within a month.....they don’t have a system that prevents them from doing that.
There is supposed to be a BILLION$$ expansion by Apple coming to Reno.
Hammer them with a corp tax & income taxes & they can cancel that in a heartbeat & go to Texas. Or Tennessee. Or South Dakota.
Sandoval is Republican, but he knows you cannot spend what you don’t have.
In 2005, the county I live in was the fastest growing county in the country.
Today, it is considered the 2nd poorest.
DMV service in Reno sucks now....the closure of the satelite operations means a long wait downtown now. Off hand though, that’s about the only service I can think of that has suffered.
