One of the best Mickey Rourke movies I've seen. "Barfly" was great too.

Angel Heart *was* a brilliant detective thriller right up to the end. Had Harry Angel (Rourke) not been able to solve the mystery and ended up in a bar, in despair, drinking himself to death, it would be remembered as the best detective movie since Touch of Evil.
It would almost be worth it to re-edit the movie and splice in some outtakes from Barfly, the movie Rourke did right after.
Instead, they paid Robert De Niro a fortune to ruin the movie with a bunch of mystical bulldada in the last 5 minutes. Tie up all the loose ends. Don’t leave the movie goers confused by not nailing every single nail into the coffin. Make what had been amazing and complex simple and stupid. Spoon feed the audience with pablum.
Obviously some studio suits were behind this tragic mistake.
