I think you’re going to run into discrimination laws then.

An incompetent 80 yr old is not likely to be elected for the first time (or if he or she is, that means this person is actually capable of the job and was capable of campaigning). Most of the 80+ or even 70+ elected reps are people who have had multiple terms.

Limit them all to two terms in whatever position it is, and the problem would be solved.

Then we should amend the Constitution. In it, it disallows any one younger than 25 to serve in the House, 30 to serve in the Senate, and 35 to serve as President. That too is age discrimination, but it is allowed by the US Constitution.

The Founders put it in there because they know that with age comes wisdom. They never expected, however, to see octogenarians plus still serving. In those days, people that old had a coveted position.
