Mitt Romney in a major speech Monday will call for a change of course in U.S. foreign policy -- saying the recent, deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya is part of a profound upheaval and that hope is not a strategy.
The speech will mark one of Romneys final opportunities before Election Day to show his potential as a world leader -- amid political turmoil in the Middle East.
The attacks on America last month should not be seen as random acts. They are expressions of a larger struggle that is playing out across the broader Middle East -- a region that is now in the midst of the most profound upheaval in a century, Romney will say, according to speech excerpts provided by the Republican presidential nominees campaign.
I know the president hopes for a safer, freer, and a more prosperous Middle East allied with the United States. I share this hope, Romney continues. But hope is not a strategy. We cannot support our friends and defeat our enemies in the Middle East when our words are not backed up by deeds.
Romney is set to speak at Virginia Military Institute at 11:20 a.m. ET.

He’s hammering Obama on Iran right now.
BAM!!!!!
Blasted Obama over his lack of support of the Iranian Revolution in 2009, THAT HAS GOT TO SMART!!!
Good take on Iran. Green banners/ Isreal/ threat to Saudis
ALso not successful in Irag, Syria....
What a phenomenal speech! Looking more Presidential than Obama could even hope for in his wildest dreams—or greatest Hollywood scenario!
“hope is not a strategy”
Zing!
HOPE is NOT a strategy..
“I want to believe him as much as anybody (Obama) ..but...I know the president HOPES...BUT HOPE IS NOT A STRATEGY”...
Very good speech in both content and tone....Mitt is very Presidential.
He’s an adult. There is SUCH a difference compared to a petulant child. :-)
Of course they will- but I believe starting a week or ten days ago Romney began receiving intel briefings, so its unlikely he is as ignorant as O will have us believe.
was wondering about that. nothing has been reported on the topic on TV.
Best single line thus far: “HOPE is not a strategy”
Yes, his tone is sincere and presidential. HE MEANS WHAT HE IS SAYING. When Obama says stuff like, “I believe in the grit of the American people”, he doesn’t believe it. Romney believes what he is saying.
will build 15 ships a year and 3 submarines....
This is more like it.
THE FIRST mission of a strong military IS TO PREVENT WAR.
“....no flexibility with Putin......”
ROFL...
He sounds like he’s the president-elect..
Good luck Mitt, getting our “allies” to spend MORE on defense..
Another impression is that this is very very detailed.....he leave no stone unturned. So nice to see and adult speaking intelligently on foreign policy and seems to have a clear understanding of what is going on in the world.
I do not and know I will not agree with Mitt on all issues...but BY GOD, this man loves America. We urgently and even DESPERATELY need that ONE quality, NOW, STAT.
