She probably to keep her story in line, need to refuse all currency handed to her that says IN GOD WE TRUST. If she is a TRUE vegetarian, she won’t eat animal crackers either.

Just don’t say the words “under God” and stop being a drama queen!

Ignore God as you wish, Babette.

But, you do so at your own peril, of a certainty.

I agree that she should have recited the pledge without the words “under God”. As an atheist, she should not confirm that this nation is “under God”. But, as an officeholder in this great country, she is obliged to pledge her allegiance to it.

I will bet if you find a picture of her in the 60s it will answer the nagging question.

Even my husband....who’s fairly liberal and is a green card holder (legal resident status).....stands (with his hat off) and faces the flag during the national anthem.

Yeah. Both the Flag and the Pledge are different then they were when I was born.

Like her, I took the option of getting older.
Getting stupider was an option I chose not to exercise.

So it was OK to change history when Under God was added in the 50s?

Josephs lost her primary in April and only has a few session days left in her 28-year career as a lawmaker.

So she’s OUT,and God is still IN!!

She has every right to say she will not take the pledge, for whatever reason.
I have a right to ridicule her for her choice.

The article notes that Congress added “under God” in 1954. That is correct but it’s not the whole story. It started with the pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, Dr. George Docherty, a native of Scotland.

Dr. Docherty thought this phrase needed to be added to the Pledge of Allegiance and in one of his sermons he said so, and among those in the congregation that day (not by accident) was President Dwight Eisenhower, a member of the Church. The President took the idea to key Congressmen and it was enacted into law.

Eh, it’s a free country. If she feels that way, it’s not a big deal. I mean, her logic could be:

1. Jesus specifically spoke against public prayer.
2. By inserting “Under God”, the pledge becomes a prayer.
3. Taking out “Under God” would be to not say the official pledge. Since the pledge is one whole unit it would be wrong to pick and choose the wording.

Point #1 is definitely true. One could make an argument for point #2. Point #3 is the weakest point, but it’s not an outlandish view.

I’ll criticize Josephs on her policy views, but not on this.

Why would you enter public office with the name “Babette”?? Please don’t tell me that was her given name! Was “Barbara” too “square”??

She has a point concerning Democrats invoking the name of God being the height of hypocracy.
