KANSAS CITY, Mo. For establishment Republicans, it is decision time in the Missouri Senate race.
Should they return to Representative Todd Akins corner?
Many quickly withdrew their support for Mr. Akin weeks ago after his controversial comments about abortion and belief that victims of legitimate rape have a biological mechanism to fight off pregnancy, hoping to force him aside so another Republican candidate could battle the Democratic incumbent, Senator Claire McCaskill.
But Mr. Akin called their bluff. He stayed in the race, reckoning that election math would oblige them to stick with him.
Now, with Mr. Akins name legally bound to the ballot, the election approaching and new polling data presenting a clearer idea of his chances, Republicans are deliberating whether to renege on their reneging.

“I have been posting here since 1999, and I was not aware that saying that women who get pregnant while being raped must have been asking for it was a social conservative position.”
Me neither. Stupid has no political limits, is what that statement showed.
Support Akin, but dont make the mistake of saying this comment wasnt a dumb one. If McCaskill does get re-elected, she can have that comment to thank for it.
Yes, he kinda did say that.
He said "if you are a victim of legitamate rape, you can't get pregnant."
The logical extension of that is "If you get pregnant, you did not get legitimately raped"
I take "not legitamately raped" as "you made it up", "you changed your mind" or "YOU ASKED FOR IT"
People like Donna have simply chosen to abandon reason and be guided by impotent rage. Her position is so illogical that a Junior High School student could shoot holes through it.....but no concession to reality is forthcoming.
I detest Mitt Romney. Out of the 8 candidates running, he was my 9th choice. He is a pretty loathsome person. But I can also see that he will be much less damaging to the country - and the pro-life movement - than the reelection of Filth Obama. Any “conservative” who can’t see that is either extremely dimwitted or simply blinded by emotion.
Hank
He never said that. Akin never said pregnancy from rape *never* happens either. Akin supports harsh punishment for rapists.
MY MY you really don’t comprehend English do you?
That is never a good plan.
Oh, so it's MY fault Romney is the nominee. Thanks for clearing that up for me. My vote for Newt in my caucus was just a sham I guess.
Enjoy a second term of 0bama and see how far that gets your non-vote in the cause for life. I could blow a hole in your broadsides, sister, when it comes to caring about the life of the unborn. You just comfort yourself that you're 'right' and help 0bama sail to a second term.
That was a pretty funny little post!
Look at the two of you attacking a conservative like me for trying to uphold conservative standards.
You’re are doing the work of the socialists for them. Shame on you.
“The correct action when presented with two evil choices is to refuse to grant democratic legitimacy to either one.”
- Vox Day
You like to quote Vox Day, but you will give us four more years of 0bama. How does that make sense?
That said: If Obama wins a second term he'll have carte blanche license, unfettered by the restraints of accountability, to mandate abortions if he wants to. I do not need to lay out the devastation to our nation if that occurs.
Ultimately, a reasonable goal, sans any constitutional amendment recognizing the beginning of life as the end of the process of conception, is to move this issue back to the state level where it belongs. This, in turn, presents a more achievable goal for the pro-life movement, one it can wrap its arms around because it's at the local level. And the pro-life movement has always proven most effective at that level.
Mitt and Obama are the same man. Wake up.
What will Mitt do?
I agree. I thought he should quit. But if it makes sense and we can get him the cash he needs without hurting other candidates then we should get him the cash.
We'll have to worry about everything else later. At the moment, please quit whining.
You wrote much better than I was able to. I agree with you 100%.
Look at the two of you attacking a conservative like me for trying to uphold conservative standards.

I, for one, am not convinced you are a true conservative. You’re “upholding conservative standards” in a fashion very similar to Obama’s supporters—at least in the intended effect.
You are not being helpful in the struggle against the statists—you’re being harmful IMHO.
That is perfect evidence your argument is weak and can't be supported by your emotional and one issue jihad.
Be honest with yourself. you are on the wrong side. Your stance is actually enabling more abortions.
Well hopefully he can defeat the Democrat ...
Take, "What will Obama do?" and subtract "What will Mitt do?". That goes you the difference.
To put it in numerical terms, Obama does -9 for the cause of life. Mitt might do 3. |-9 - 3| is 12.
That's the difference, in my poorly-constructed numerical analogy.
Think of all the children who will die when Obama cracks down on peaceful sidewalk counsellors, making that a federal crime. Would Mitt do that? You know the answer.
Perhaps it is also stupid to falsely attribute to Todd something he did not say.
Cordially,
