KANSAS CITY, Mo. For establishment Republicans, it is decision time in the Missouri Senate race.
Should they return to Representative Todd Akins corner?
Many quickly withdrew their support for Mr. Akin weeks ago after his controversial comments about abortion and belief that victims of legitimate rape have a biological mechanism to fight off pregnancy, hoping to force him aside so another Republican candidate could battle the Democratic incumbent, Senator Claire McCaskill.
But Mr. Akin called their bluff. He stayed in the race, reckoning that election math would oblige them to stick with him.
Now, with Mr. Akins name legally bound to the ballot, the election approaching and new polling data presenting a clearer idea of his chances, Republicans are deliberating whether to renege on their reneging.

They need to have somebody to beat up on, and Mitt Romney has proven to be a bit of a porcupine. The more they beat on him, the worse it is for them.
They need a punching bag like Todd Akin. It frustrates them no end that the GOP has successfully distanced itself from Akin, so this line of attack is closed off to them.
Unless they can jump-start The War on Women or some other distracting theme, Barack Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party are going to go down in flames.
Heck, if the blowout is big enough, the coat-tails will probably be enough to drag even Todd Akin over the line. That is the only way he is going to win, anyway.
Akin must be dragged over the finish line if we intend to ever take the senate back from weed, er reid.
I dare say he will RUN over that finish line with honor and integrity!!!!!He spoke out of turn.
ADMITTED it,
got up , brushed himself off,
apologized, only to find the establishment PUSHING HIM BACK DOWN in the mud!!!!
BUT THANKFULLY he is a man of character and has stood back up and faced the RINOS!!!!!
GOD BLESS HIM!
The sad part is, even though what he said wasn’t too bright - there are many more issues at stake in this election. This isn’t a one issue election by any means!!
Yes. But if the GOP embrace him how, they will give the Democrats the lifeline they need, and we could lose the White House, the Senate, and the whole shooting match.
I want Akin to win. But the only way for Akin to win, at this point, is to put such a drubbing on Obama that Akin gets carried along by the wave. And the way to put a drubbing on Obama is for all of us to stick to our knitting, and let Akin and the local Missouri GOP worry about Akin.
Did you see the latest Rasmussen Ohio Senate Poll? 46% - 46%. If Romney wins Ohio, that will be a pickup. If Brown holds Mass and there are wins in ND, Neb., VA and Wis. it is Set, Game, Match!
Obama’s support is looking to drift away. We can’t throw him a lifeline now.
That is why the New York Times is trying to play up this Akin thing. They know that Obama needs a foothold, and they are doing their best to provide one.
This is a national election. If the Hopey-Changeys stay home, Akin will win, along with a lot of other Republicans. And, as always, we should be looking to get to 60 Senators, not just 50.
Despite my belief that Akin should have done the right thing and dropped out, it is hard to ignore McCaskill’s enormous vulnerability.
I would like to inject some money ASAP into this contest, but worry that a direct donation to Akin’s campaign might not be the best destination. Is there is a PAC supportive of Akin that shows more acumen than Akin himself?
I think that individual donations to Akin are a great idea. It is the place where a little money can do a lot of good.
That was my point, he has to get dragged along in a Romney landslide. More has to fall in place for that to happen so it is all on the shoulders of Romney to do it.
I agree. The GOP can’t embrace this guy now. After Mitt’s huge win this past week, the Dem operatives are out in force on the talk shows today shouting “Birth Control”. We finally got this narrative focused on the economy and taxes and we need to keep it there.
Let Akin rely on his local support and hope a Mitt landslide in Missouri pulls him across the finish line.
The New Yawn Times really needs to get over this and try to MoveOn.
.
- President Obama - I keep hearing your surrogates on TV insisting that “your budget” will fix the terrible economic mess and high level of unemployment that America is still in now; but if that is really true - why have you not been able to get even one Democrat in Congress to vote for any of your proposed budget or budgets - not one single Democrat would vote for your budget.
I just don’t understand this.
Could you please explain this to the voters tonight?
.
- Polish it up Mitt - It’s a midget killer!
.
Also MT. There is a good chance Tester is going to lose. Then there is Nelson in FL.
I can’t believe the GOP-e is STILL agonizing over this with one f-ing month to go!
Can we talk about the real problem:
Romney says abortion legal for mother’s health

Party establishment is still angling for advantage, the latest “you owe us” strategy appears to be claiming that coattails are the reason Akin will get elected, and it does appear that he will be despite the rience Priebus hissy fit and the cutting off of funding. They’re really torn up about the possibility of an elected conservative who is thoroughly off their plantation. Maybe they see the seeds of a conservative political party being planted and have to co-opt it before it spreads, who knows?
CT might go to Linda McMahon over Chris Dodd II (aka Chris Murphy) and a real Republican might take Maine!!
While I beleive a direct contribution may be best, you can look into this PAC... http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81652.html#comments
