President Obamas reelection campaign, which only two months ago fretted that it was losing the money race to Republican challenger Mitt Romney, said Saturday that it was on the cusp of raising $1 billion for the 2012 election after posting its strongest fundraising month of the year.
The Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised $181 million last month, easily eclipsing the $114 million that they had raised together in August. The number falls just shy of the all-time monthly record of $193 million, however, which was set by Obama in September 2008.
Campaign manager Jim Messina wrote in an e-mail to supporters that Obamas fundraising efforts in 2012 mark a historic record for grass-roots politics. The campaign says it has collected more than 10 million individual donations so far this year.
The September haul caps a turnaround in Obamas financial status since May. He fell behind his Republican opponent in monthly fundraising through July, but he edged out Romney in August, $114 million to $112 million.
Obama has raised nearly half his money through small donations with aggressive solicitation programs targeting e-mail, social media and cellphone texting services. Last months fundraising also included the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., and a notable bump in the polls for the president in subsequent weeks.

Grammer fuzz...it is “AN HISTORIC” not “a historic”...numbnuts!
We’ve got the best government money can buy.
roling -> rolling
(sigh)
When is Romney going to release his September numbers? I wonder if he is holding back for a reason. Wouldn't it be something if he hit $200m.
We’ve wondered why the psych-ops in the month of September of his inevitability. I think a big part was to drive money, and maybe scare off Romney donations. We’ll see what he brings to the table. After a lighter August, I hope to see a healthy number for Romney.
I wonder how much of that billion has disappeared up Zero’s nose and how much has gone into overseas accounts for his “retirement?”
My.....how strange!
snicker....chortle....
more fraud.
that REAL journalists would uncover.
-
these are NOT coming from small donations.
-
Obama is going down down down.
few even put bumper stickers on.
-
Libya, gaffes, worse economy, higher gas prices.
-
yet, we are expected to believe,
that fund-raising is just better and better ?

I see some of all this stimulus and green job taxpayer money is coming back to the Obama coffers. I hope someone can follow the money.

I call BS if they cant prove it.
The Arabs are coming through. In the last 10 days you won’t be able to turn on the TV or your computer or any other communication device without seeing the kenyan. You wont be able to cast your gaze anywhere without seeing billboards and laser projections. I have long said that the kenyan has no spending limit at all, that if the arabs don’t supply millions of “small donations” that Soros would be worth a billion or so or that, in the end, he has access to and will use all the public money he thinks he needs. There will be no effective sanctions whether he wins or loses. If he loses, the Republicans will choose to let all the shenanigans just disappear and if he wins, nothing we take now for granted will be relevant.
And add in vote fraud far more intense than has ever happened in the USA outside of, say, Chicago, and maybe even including Chicago.
Does 0 get to keep the $$ not spent on the campaign?
