Employment participation rate is also a good true measure of real employment.

I believe the “discouraged job seekers” are the ones whose unemployment insurance has run out and have been dropped from the unemployment count. So, yes, they could be considered discouraged.

CT, like NJ, has a lot of people that lost financial jobs in NYC. The high-tax states in the northeast have been hit hard as salaries have adjusted to “the new normal” ($.60 on the dollar) while our tax burdens haven’t.

Here's an example - right here in CT - of how the numbers are cooked.

Last night, I glanced at the local paper touting the “STEP-Up job training program” in CT. It seems $30 million of our tax dollars have enabled 297 businesses to hire 699 employees statewide. That’s $42K per. For a year. What then? No skin off the employer’s nose - they get a headcount for nothing while the money lasts. But this sure doesn’t sound like “employment” in the strict sense - although it sure does add to Obummer’s employment figures... What a racket.
