I think I will add Heart to my list.
I have been beating the drum for Jetho Tull and Johnny Rivers for years now. NWA? Give me a break.
And, Metallica...
I had a professor at GA Southern who emphasized Deep Purple, because they could actually read music.
Thanks, this made me wonder who (what?) will be nominated this year to the Artichoke Hall of Fame, the site of which I once passed driving through Monterey County, California (in a hurry, I regrettably couldn’t stop to visit.)
Randy Newman ... one hit wonder, and it was a stupid song.
I’m guessing you’re talking about “Short People.” I didn’t even realize that was him until I looked it up just now. My first thoughts were “I Love LA” (as a Celtics fan, I don’t) and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” but that still doesn’t seem Hall-worthy. (Apparently he also wrote “Mama Told Me (Not To Come)”)
Metallica was inducted in 2009.
About dang time for Rush...
Um, Metallica is already in Wenners wretched HOF.
I am happy for Rush but we fans dont need Wenners wretched HOF to legitimize the band.
KISS deserves induction for their contribution to merchandising and for big stage shows.
Albert King deserves a spot, legendary player.
Hopefully more metal like Maiden get in and more prog like Yes & Tull get the nod.
How about his tv brand new smash single (makes me want to smash it) “I want a white President”. Short People was a fun novelty song but hall of fame worthy? I dont think so.
Albert King: yes
Chic: no
Deep Purple: yes
Donna Summer: no (DS is rock and roll?)
Heart: tentative no
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts: no
Kraftwerk: no
the Marvelettes: no
the Meters: no
N.W.A. : hell no
Paul Butterfield Blues Band: no
Procul Harum: yes
Public Enemy: no
Randy Newman: sadly, no
Rush: enthusiastic yes.
Rush won’t be inducted, Wenner hates them. Procol probably won’t, Wenner hates prog. Deep Purple’s probably out, Wenner hates metal. Joan Jett is a lesbian, she’s in, which is actually OK she’s made some awesome tunes. Somebody really needs to make a “Jann Wenner is a complete ass-hat” counter version to the rock hall.
What about “Yes?”
Poison Summer was a truly great album.
I'd agree with the 'definitely not,' but let's at least give him credit for writing "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)."
Yep! Phooey oughta be nominated!
"No!"
Now at last I know know the meaning of something called ‘cognitive dissonance’.
We hate the R’n’RHoF, but at the same time we want our rock groups which the R’n’RHoF powers that be consider (and rightly so) mediocre and undeserving, we want these Journeys and Rushs, and Rosies and the Originals, Pat Benehars and Helen Reddys and Iron Butterflies IN IT!
