Supervisor Scott Wiener never wanted to propose a ban on public nudity. But support for his ordinance, which was introduced Tuesday, has become so widespread that even those who were reluctant to complain publicly are speaking up.
And that means everybody.
"I went to a brunch for the Folsom Street Fair," Wiener said. "And I was a little nervous. This was a full-leather crowd. Were they going to yell at me? But I had these big old leather daddies coming up to me and saying, 'Please do something about this.' "
...George Davis, a former nude candidate for mayor, sees Wiener's proposed ban as "an attack on freedom," and has convinced himself that the nude brigade is leading a movement that could go city-wide.
Davis says he's gone full Monty all over town, from Fisherman's Wharf to North Beach.
"I walk all over the place nude," he said. "The most common reaction is oblivious."
..."Obviously, this is something no other city would be having a conversation about," says James A. Martin, who has written a short comic play about the issue, called "The Buck Naked Church of Truth."
But don't sell the issue short. Wiener says he's expecting a fight as the legislation goes forward, including lots of sound and fury at public comment when the final vote comes up. Nude supporters will be hoping to tap into the city's view of itself as a haven for the eccentric and unconventional - the worry that supporting any restriction invalidates your San Francisco credentials.
"It's like you're a bad liberal," said Wiener. "You feel guilty about it."

Apparenty not, from this article.
The bar is now so low, we’ll need James Cameron to find it.
Yes, every so often they realize that they’ve gone a little further than they meant to go...like now, when they had to pass a law that the owners of these naked butts had to carry towels to put on chairs in public places! And think of eating at your favorite cafe when one of these naked butts walks in. Eeeewwww...
No shirt, no shoes, no pants . . . no problem!
SF wants to ban naked people walking around in public? What about all that tolerance talk we always from there. Is this some kind of hate and phobia taking hold?

So, urinating in public is enough to put you on the sex offender database, but walking around buck naked is supposed to be ok?

Any libertarians here going to weigh in to defend this “victimless crime?”
I lived in SF and the people who do this are NEVER hot —they’re old and fat and in most cases they’re at least a little mentally ill.
JUST GROSS...!
Only in San FranSICKO..
Only in San FranSICKO..
Yep....
Wiener says cover your wiener.......
It was my understanding this wasn’t a problem in San Fran.....
Ususaly their wieners are stuck in a bun.....
Any libertarians who support public nudity haven't thought it through. You have no more right to send light from your naked body into my eyeball than you do to throw your garbage into my yard.
Yeah the last thing you want when you're sinking your teeth into a bean burrito is to have a hairy azz crack hanging in your face :^(
The libertarians response would be to “just look away” if you don’t like it. Kind of like they say about publicly viewable pornography.
