Why should they talk with us? All they have to do is continue murdering our soldiers and wait for us to leave. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. Wonder if Karzai has his off shore bank accounts and future exile home ready?

This is my shocked face.

Gee, I guess announcing an exit date wasn't that great of a negotiating tactic after all.

As of right now, 2014 is the end of COMBAT operations. NATO will still be in Afghan "en masse" well into the 2020s. We still have thousands deployed in Iraq despite what our glorious leaders say btw.

Well, I hope Romney mentions this in the debate.

Who were the idiots that thought something useful would come from talking with the Taliban?

The talks collapsed? There never have been any meaningful talks with the Taliban, and there never will be.

What a surprise! Unexpected!

No, of course not. Bowing and kissing the a$$e$ of filthy taliban is not going to get them to suddenly become civilized and stop the murdering.

The Taliban have the upper hand. They know we’re losing interest and leaving. The country will eventually be theirs.

But then they’ll have to govern it. Good luck with that.

Guess the State Department didn't offer them enough concessions (money bribes).

When I first heard of this I was just dumbfounded that ANYONE would even attempt to negotiate with those backward, murdering, raping, women suppressing, barbarians. Seems the "One World" socialists don't remember the photo of the Taliban shooting a woman in a soccer stadium and all their other atrocities that occur on a daily basis, not to mention supporting al-Queda who attacked us on 9/11/01 and are still killing our Troops in Aftganiscrap.

Kinda like the world has forgotten about all the weekly suicide bombings in Israel before they built the wall, and yet blame Israel for not willing to give up their security to the so-called palestinians and Syria. Bill Clinton recently espoused that Israel should go back to pre-1967 borders. Guess he still remembers Hillary kissing Arafat's wife.

I watched a neutral documentary some years back, "The Children of Gaza" on Discovery or History channel, before they got into stupid reality shows. By the end, the female producer walked away in disgust as she witnessed their schools and parents teaching the children to hate anything Jewish or Israeli. Just one example: A child of about 4 and mother were interviewed and the child said she hates Jews. Four years old?

And politicians still believe that if we are "nicey, nice", to the Taliban, Palestinians, et al, and change their centuries old teaching of hate and conquest and adopt Western principles are living in a self-delusional dream world. Won't ever happen!

BTW, where is NOW with all the subjugation, mutilations, rapes, and murders of women in the Muslim world that occur daily? Actually, I like that they have all but disappeared from the political scene. Good riddance.

Short of killing everyone over there, the Taliban will remain a problem.

we went into secret negotiations with Taliban - through 3rd parties - and Karzai, as the titular Afghan leader complained, rightly

sensing Obama would leave no matter what anyway

the Taliban played Obama like an old guitar, never intending to come to an agreement, and played for time

meanwhile, I suspect, that Karzai has been attempting his own secret negotiations with the Taliban, trying to preserve his own life after the U.S. leaves by attempting some sort of even more grand “unity” government, including the Taliban and believing, like an idiot, that doing so will avoid the civil war the Taliban will create in their own repeat of the 1990s war for supreme and sole power in Afghanistan

I don’t know who is the bigger idiot in all this, Karzai or Obama.

On the other hand, two U.S. administrations have allowed so much politics to intrude on the military mission in Afghanistan that, outside of re-initiating the whole thing from scratch, I don’t think the mission can possibly be rescued, and that propsoect cannot obtain the backing of even a plurality of Americans. At this point I would prefer that not another American dies in Afghanistan in a war that American politics, not American military prowess, has lost.
