Two of Mitt Romney's senior advisers say they are backing Todd Akin, the Missouri Republican Senate candidate they once shunned.

Jim DeMint just sent an email ad asking for money for eight Senate candidates. Akin is not among those eight. It’s one of those emails that does not take replies.
So?
Realpolitik, nothing less nothing more. Any other GOP candidate would have been a guaranteed win so if Akins egotistical recalcitrance costs us a senate majority he will be damnedif we support him and he can somehow pull off a win, great, he will have dodged a bullet.
No need for regrets asking him to step aside after he ate his foot, it would have been the right thing to do and we would not be worried now about winning the seat.
$$$$$$$$$$$$
Very well stated. Akin’s original comments were unconscionable and politically radioactive in the extreme.
It’s fair to say he’s a decent man who said an incredibly stupid thing. R&R are moving slowly toward him now that the heat has died down. We need that seat if we are to control the Senate.
I think you may well be right about Akin winning. The most interesting question (to me) is what will Akin demand from the GOP Leadership for his vote (s). Notice I did not use the word loyalty as I doubt that Akin will feel that he owe’s any to the GOP. It my guess he will extract his pound of flesh from the GOP on a vote by vote basis.....
And we need empty platitudes more? I prefer to think of it as being realistic. Cheering the basically empty promises that Talent and Bond have issued ignores the challenges that the Akin campaign are faced with.
Look how things have suddenly started turning around for Todd. Let's take one day at a time.
The election is five days from tomorrow. There isn't enough time to take it 'one day at a time'. McCaskill is sitting on several million dollars. Akin is basically broke.
I predict he will be getting funding from not only the NRSC as they have already stated they are going to release now...
As recently as Friday, Cornyn said that the NRSC would provide no money for Akin. Only one PAC has said they're providing money. We need more to step up to the plate. Both Bond and Talent can help in that area. Why won't they?
Got a link?
I take that to be a typo.^
Anyway, like I always say....never say never. Always be optimistic. Negative thoughts usually brings negative results. Have faith. Good CAN overcome evil. History Has shown us that things can turn on a dime. Remember Harry Truman and Dewey as well as Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter? What ever happens, it is destined to do so. Only God knows what the outcome will be come November 6th.
Cheers!
Oh really?! I've never seen so many go so knee-jerk stupid in all my life.
There is, repeat, is, science that backs up the claim that when a women is under extreme stress, that extreme stress interferes with her ability to conceive. This is not rocket science and makes perfect sense. Many have noted this was taught in medical school. What is so heard to believe about it being potentially true?
Also it is obvious he meant "forcible rape", and not "morning after regret" claim of rape (NOT A LEGITIMATE RAPE) or statutory rape of a 17 year old girl in the back seat of a car by her 18 year old boy friend. Neither of those would produce the extreme stress that he was discussing.
The GOP used to be the party of personal responsibility, and Akin is an example of all that changing. He one the primary, even if he took unsavory money to do it. But no one forced him to go out and make that disastrous interview. In the old party of personal responsibility, he would have taken responsibility and bowed out gracefully. But he's a narcissistic egomaniac, so that wouldn't do. Now the GOP believes personal responsibility is a bad thing. Akin is the ultimate welfare candidate, who wants everyone else to pay for his mistakes. Personally, I have had enough with this philosophy. I will not give a cent to the GOP, now that they are backing losers like this, who expect everyone else to take responsibility for them. Enough. He is everything we voted against in 2010.
Romney and Akin deserve each other. I will laugh so hard at McConnell if Akin pulls a Jeffords and caucuses with the Dems.
He is going to get crushed .
But send money so his his family can live off it .
Yes his crazy wife and son are campaign co chairs and on the payroll .
These clowns are typical DC elites who did not want their cushy lifestyle
To stop .
Wow, what social programs will Romney come up with if he has a friendly Congress? “No Immigrant Left Behind, “No violent felon left behind,” “No community organizer left behind.” “Small Business Owners Are Scum Act.”
Rich Lowry is a CINO. We’ve know that for, what, 20 years?
Just curious why youa re lumping Akin in with the "GOP establishment". He certainly doesn't hold establsihment views, so I'm not sure how that description fits. Can you enlighten me?
I was thinking about this very thing this morning. We have so many spineless Pubbies, it's rather refreshing to see one that doesn't cave.
I have no idea if Lowry has a good record on his predictions or not, so I'm not sure if this is at all meaningful.
But hey, maybe such predictions will make the Pubbies get off their duffs and do something to prove Rich wrong.
Another brainless statement from nickcarraway, and it only goes downhill from there.
I will laugh so hard at McConnell if Akin pulls a Jeffords and caucuses with the Dems.
Yeh -- that's something that every "establishment boy" does.
Check your medication, nick.
“Jim DeMint just sent an email ad asking for money for eight Senate candidates. Akin is not among those eight. Its one of those emails that does not take replies.”
I did not get that e-mail. The last e-mail I received from the Senate Conservatives Fund was Saturday, Sept. 29th, that did not mention any of the candidates individually, just bumped its fund-raising goal from $12 million to $14 million, though the e-mail did show a picture of Mourdock as an example of one of the candidates it was backing. The previous e-mail I had received from the SCF before that one was received Thursday, Sept. 27, which announced that it was backing Akin, that 93% of respondents to a SCF questionnaire supported Akin, and solicited donations to Akin’s campaign.
Akin is currently shown on SCF’s website as one of nine candidates SCF is backing, having contributed $137,000+ so far to Akin’s campaign.
