Hi Everybody!

(((HUGS)))

Thank you for tonight’s story. It touched me in a profound way that this hero had such a hard time after the War.

I was listening to the radio a few days ago about Kentucky's most recent Medal of Honor recipient, Dakota Meyer, and his autobiography, Into the Fire. During the interview they spoke with him about a segment in the book in which he mentions that a year after the Battle of Ganjgal, and a year before he was awarded the Medal of Honor, he attempted to commit suicide.

He had spent the evening drinking, trying to forget the battle and his lost friends. He put a pistol to his head and pulled the trigger. By some miracle the gun failed to fire, and Dakota said that he sobered up instantly after hearing the hammer come down. The next day, he went to the VA and sought assistance dealing with his PTSD.
