During World War Two, two Allied airmen waltzed right out of a POW camp and all the way across Germany and France without anyone realizing who they were. One guy had a measuring stick and the other one had a clipboard full of paper and a pencil. They would walk along measuring things; everything from the gate at their camp to curbs and mailboxes. musta got greedy...had he glommed onto three or four cars a day nobody would ever notice. many years ago i tagged along on a vendingn machine route. snacking on free candy was cool, but i noticed he always took a quarter from each machine and stuck it in his pocket. wheni asked him, he tod me that nobody would notice one quarter, and he ended up with an extra mabye seventy five bucks a week. back then it was pretty dern good.
nobody ever caught on.
The government frowns on private enterprise. Especially this kind.
Why, this represents money that the government could have used to pay for birth control *and* ObamaCellPhones for up to 22 day-job-challenged women!!

when did they start charging for parking? when i visited there a while back i was told the guy gave the land to the museum with the agreement that parking would be free.
In 1980, when LAX lots were producing $15 million in receipts, the airport’s parking manager claimed that employee theft amounted to less than a half-million dollars. After the installation of a computerized system, it was revealed that LAX attendants were stealing close to $4 million a year. “In L.A.,” says Wilson, “just one-quarter of operations have some kind of automation. That means $600 million a year is being processed with no mechanical controls. Loss rates are very high.” They’re also high for the city government, which claims that parking lot owners have cheated the city out of $23 million in tax revenue since 2008. This past October, the city drew up a law requiring permitted parking lot operators to provide mechanical or digital monitoring to do business in L.A.
Supposedly bike parking is free there. Take a bike, drop off your passengers, and then park on the other side of 28 near the CIA building. Bike back.
This is exactly why METRO went to those darned Metro cards, because attendants were stealing more than a million dollars a year. Yeah, I know shocking that someone in the DC Area would steal. Well, except for Congress!
I seem to remember that Senator Howard Metzenbaum made much of his fortune in paid airport parking. Until the 60s it was always free. He got the bright idea to start charging for it and voila. Big bucks.
