It is astounding that what really happened in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 has been so thoroughly buried by the mainstream media.
In an article from Reuters dated September 12, 2012, Alastair MacDonald reported that "U.S. troops dispatched by helicopter across the Libyan desert to rescue Ambassador Chris Stevens and other diplomats in Benghazi ran into a fierce overnight ambush that left a further two Americans dead." MacDonald quotes Capt. Fathi al-Obeidi (Libya special operations) as saying that "after his men and the Marines had found the American survivors who had evacuated the blazing consulate, the ostensibly secret location in an isolated villa came under an intense and highly accurate mortar barrage."
A detailed timeline of the attack is here.
Now, I'm confused. Helicopters? Apparently, as the consulate came under attack, the occupants contacted someone (it isn't specified who), and the Marines were dispatched. The Marines then ran into an ambush when they tried to helicopter to the consulate location from "across the Libyan desert." Meanwhile, Capt. al-Obeidi said that "it began to rain down on us," just as his security force was heading out to evacuate the 37 Americans in the ten pickup trucks and sedans they had brought to take the Americans to the airport. Capt. al-Obeidi said that he was "being bombarded by calls from all over the country by Libyan government officials who wanted me to hurry and get them out."

The attack on the Libyan consulate, as it happened10:15-10:45 p.m.: The attackers enter the compound and begin firing into the main building, setting it on fire. Mission security and Libyan guards respond.
10:45 p.m.: U.S. security personnel try to take back the main building, but they come under heavy fire and return to the mission annex, where 25 to 30 people are holed up.
11:20 p.m.: U.S. and Libyan security personnel again try to take back the main building, this time successfully. They evacuate the rest of the personnel.
12 midnight: The mission annex comes under fire, which continues for about two hours. Two Americans are killed, (former SEALs) and two others are wounded.
3 a.m. Wednesday (9 p.m. ET Tuesday): The fighting is over, and U.S. and Libyan security forces regain control of the compound.
I’m having trouble accepting the fact that there was no MSG Det at Embassy Tripoli. That’s a pretty bad neighborhood not to have any protection. I’ve served in a few missions without an MSG presence, but those were way different times.
State Dept. Rules of Engagement Kept Marines out of Tripoli, Benghazi in LibyaThe Marine Corps has issued a statement regarding its involvement in the recent actions in Egypt and Libya. ..
In Libya, the Corps says that no Marines are stationed at the Embassy in Tripoli or the Consulate in Benghazi. Security in Libya, such as it existed, apparently was provided by contractors. The Rules of Engagement under which they operated are unclear.
Decisions regarding whether to have Marines at particular U.S. embassies and consulates fall to the State Department, according to the Marine Corps statement. In the case of Tripoli, the Corps says there were discussions with the State Department about establishing a detachment at the embasssy in Tripoli, a new embassy, some time in the next five years. That may seem like a long time, but for bureaucrats it is often considered ASAP.
I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong, and I sure don't expect an apology from a horse's butt like you for insulting me, but I do wish you would go bother someone else with your infantile responses and your complete inability to back up your statements.
It is troubling.
I’ve read that too. You started with the insults and continue with the insults. I find you completely ignorant and refuse to discuss this any further. Find out like everyone else. Stop with the insults. It makes you look bad.
I’m sure most of the contract security folks are all former military and well-trained. But it’s been my experience that the U S Marine Security Guard are more than ready and are spoiling for a fight with those polecats.
I would prefer a detachment of U.S. Marines over hired Libyans any day. I’d trade ten of the latter for one of the former.
When that late night call came, he hit the snooze alarm.
NBC news report. Hmm. I want to hear from the people who were inside. Would be nice if someone followed up on the Reuters story. It clearly explains how they were evacuated, how they left the airport, recovering the body from the hospital. I don’t see the same details or named officials in the NBC article.

This article also talks about an “American security team” that arrived in Benghazi and showed the Libyan team how to get to the safe house.

There was a later report on a Libya deployment tucked into an article about Sudan- in this case the deployment is to Tripoli, not Benghazi, but I'mnot sure if it refers to the same report as the one of the 12th above :

I don't know if those earlier mentions were to Benghazi or Tripoli as the Freepers didn't include a link to their info. The articles may be about totally separate groups of marines sent on different days. The freepers may have just assumed the deployment was to Benghazi, or maybe they were right, hard to tell. One early report the morning after the attack read as though a deployment of Marines sent to the rescue ran into a fight on the way in.
A later report on the 14th said Libya closed down Benghazi airport and saw US drones overhead which they believed were signs of imminent deployments of US forces, but the article implied the Libyans in Baghazi had not yet seen anyone actually arrive, marine or otherwise.
Isn't it amazing that 37 people got out of there and only the one or two involved in a photo-op with Hillbilly are quoted anywhere in the press. The others must be under house arrest for something. Like Nakoula who is presently unable to speak to the press about who dubbed his film, who changed it four times, who funded it, who alerted a Cairo cleric to it or anything else.
It could be there was a real wedding. It could also be a staged one to cover for somethingn else. I suppose a wedding crowd could be a good place to position attackers close by until they are ready, and the civilians would provide wilingly or not, good cover from return fire.
I expect to see a certain Presidential Imposter’s a#% in a sling shortly..........crickets......
This is beyond just humiliating.....it’s the children in charge.
It’ so confusing, I’m not sure of any timeline, who and what were involved, and even how many casualties we actually suffered. If some helicopters came from “across the desert,” where did they come from, why were they there, who was aboard them, and what happened to the helecopters and people?
I am only going to say this once. You insulted me when you posted for me to STFU. I tried to be nice but there are some people you just can’t be nice to. You posted a letter from the Marine Corps stating they weren’t there. Would you have posted the same letter the White House released saying it was all caused by a video. Do you believe everything you read? If so, I get your anger and frustration but you are taking it out on the wrong person. I haven’t blogged in a long time, almost completely swearing it off for good until I found out what really happened. I was so mad that Obama was lying about the video and the attack. Once the truth comes out then I will be on my way. The only detail I don’t know is why. I am still trying to get those answers. Let’s agree to disagree until then.
As for your utterly sourceless claims they are pure BS.
If you want to compare a statement from the Marine Corps to a statement from the 0bungle's WH on this forum then go right ahead. When you find a source that counters the Marine Corps statement then get back to us. Until then you've got zip.
