TOLEDO, OhioMitt Romney projected confidence Wednesday that he's going to win Ohio, in spite of a recent spate of polls showing him trailing President Barack Obama in this crucial swing state.
"I'm going to win Ohio," Romney told NBC's Ron Allen in an interview. "I'm going to become the next president."
In a separate interview with ABC's David Muir, Romney downplayed several recent polls that suggest he's losing ground to Obama in Ohio and other battleground states. "Polls go up, polls go down," Romney told ABC. But, he added, he was "absolutely convinced" that people would support his campaign after watching his first debate with Obama, scheduled for next week.
Romney's comments came as he wrapped up a quick bus tour in Ohio with a rally at a convention center herevowing he will create new jobs and turn the economy around "when I become president."
Fueled by the cheers of more than 3,000 supporters, Romney repeatedly slammed Obama, linking him to increased gas priceswhich he claimed had doubled under Obama's watchand accusing the president of wanting to raise taxes on small businesses.
"He wants to raise the tax rates on them. That'll kill jobs," Romney said. "I'm gonna lower the tax rates. He wants to raise them. I'll create jobs. He'll kill 'em."

Has a candidate of any party ever publicly announced that he was going to lose?
No Bias There! /sarc
Ohio is 84% white.
its not a color thing....it is a capitalism vs marxism thing.
I guess I should have said “serious candidate”!
Mitt will. Heard on my online radio from a woman in Ohio that there is a grassroots effort via the “Sean Hannity Show.”
Whether these outrages could have been discerned beforehand by a more objective vetting of man's murky past is indeed not worth exploring in detail at this point.
Rather, the demonstrable, ongoing, here-and-now collusion between the media and this administration to hide his many, many scandals is THE issue, because it strikes to the very core of the integrity of our political class right now.
They were showing how hyenas eat their prey even before its dead. You watch the poor beast struggle in vain as they pile on, and start ripping it apart from all directions.
I have the sense that the United States is such a beast in peril. You have the media, the sycophant class, the corrupt Chicago machine, and enemies around the world, all diving in for a meal, while the electorate debates whether it's worth struggling any more at all.
In the nature shows, the beast eventually gives up the ghost, and the hyenas get hungry again, seeking another beast on which to feast. It's what they are, they cannot do anything else.
Gotta' hand it to them, they are very good strait faced liars!
They are using the polls to explain why Romney has lost, Rasmussen is the young new kid on the block when CBSCNNNBC are tried and true!
They are VERY VERY worried!
This is both naive and dangerous. He needs to go for the kill and make them scatter. Otherwise they pile on, and will eat him up, pretty much the way they have been for months now.
I see far more Romney bumper stickers and yard signs in Ohio than I do for Obama which is inverse from what it was 4 years ago.
Just about every Ohioan I know who voted for Obama last election will be voting for Romney in this election or not voting at all.
Even my liberal nieces got a clue!
The thrill of Hope & Change is gone...
Please add me to the list. I am most curious to see how this all turns out.
I saw someone posting last night who was watching the absentee ballots coming in at a 14% higher rate than 4 years ago and all Republican. If We tie Cuyahoga county and it looks like we will, it’s our state. Keep on trucking!
Still, look at the absentee vote requests of R v D and you will see this is looking very good for Romney.
Don’t forget Milwaukee where according to the press he got 18000 followers into an amphitheatre that seats 5000.
It’s just you.
That is fantastic news!
Thanks for posting.
At this point in Obama tenure people have pretty figured out the type of person is...which means the people who are on the fence or leaning one way or another...are not going to be swayed by the media waking up and reporting on scandals...which have become second nature in DC
So those people need to hear a message about the future not a rehash of scandals the media barely reports on...
He/she was just responding to a post saying Ohio has a large black population.
I don't like him, never have and likely never will, and I'm still not decided to vote for him (but, as I live in Maryland, if my vote mattered in a national race, it's already a GOP landslide anyway), but I have never doubted his ability as a politician.
