-PPP's newest Florida Senate poll finds Bill Nelson continuing to expand his lead. He's at 46% to 37% for Connie Mack IV. Three weeks ago Nelson led by 7 points and in early July he had been ahead by only 2.
Nelson's still not popular. Only 34% of voters approve of him to 41% who disapprove. But he lucked out with an extremely weak opponent. Only 30% of voters have a favorable opinion of Mack to 44% with a negative one. Mack's numbers are a particularly dreadful 22/53 spread with independents, and he trails Nelson by 22 points with them at 48-26.
The most striking finding in the poll is that Nelson leads Mack 44-41 with white voters. If a Democrat can win white voters in Florida they're headed for a blowout victory overall, and increasingly that appears to be the case in this race
-Mitt Romney didn't get much of a bounce out of the Republican convention in Florida, but Marco Rubio sure has. His approval breakdown this month is 52/32, the best we've found for him since he took office. He's on solid 50/33 ground with independents and has a higher than normal 26% of Democrats who approve of him. Rubio's approval numbers were pretty middling for the last year and a half but he's seen a noticeable improvement since the convention.
-38% of Florida voters approve of Rick Scott this month to 48% who disapprove. His numbers, although still bad, continue to be better than they've been for most of his term. Scott trails a generic Democratic opponent for reelection by a 48/42 margin.
One specific person who seems like he could be the Democratic candidate for Governor in 2014 is Charlie Crist. He leads Scott 48-43 in a hypothetical contest. Crist is not an overwhelmingly popular figure in Florida anymore though. 39% of voters have a favorable opinion of him to 43% with a negative one. His numbers with Democrats (up from 44/33 to 55/22) and Republicans (down from 24/60 to 19/69) have headed in opposite directions in the three weeks since he appeared at the Democratic convention. 48% of voters think he should complete the switch and become a Democrat to 21% who think he should not and that sentiment is held among Democrats (61/11) and Republicans (40/33) alike.
-And finally Democrats lead the generic Congressional ballot in Florida 47-43.
That’s about in line with Ras’ latest, isn’t it?
I was always under the impression Spaceman Nelson was one of the Sainted Ones, who would stay in office until he chose to retire. I was hoping I was wrong. Too bad Florida voters seem to be OK with his lockstep obedience to Obama and his every whim.
Other pollsters aren’t too rosy in many of the Senate races either. While I think this is temporary and will change as we get closer and they have all their debates (and the presidential candidates debate), I am getting concerned the Senate may be out of reach.
We need it for one reason.
SCOTUS. I will eat my shoe if we do not have a retirement from the court over the next couple years. It WILL happen. We MUST have the Senate.
I think we will. But, not liking much of the Senate polling lately, even Ras. If we get our voters out, we will take it.

“RealClearPolitics, which collects and summarizes information from many polls, marks P.P.P. as democrat-leaning.[7]”
Since RealClear Politics is HARDLY conservative, this is interesting.
“I see ads attacking Mack all the time. I see no commercials from Mack. Nelson is the only one that seems visible and he is making Mack look like a punk.”
Ditto everything you said. I’m sorely disappointed in Mack; if he can’t run a better campaign, he should have let somebody else run against the old fart Nelson!
Only 5%? Come on, anyone who is anyone knows that the democrats are ahead in every single election by a gazillion billion%.
Everyone I know has told me that Obama is outspending Romney 3:1 in Florida. I have no idea why, but Romney clearly has a problem.
Ditto!!!
Where the hell is Connie Mack!! Nelson is pounding him with ads.
I feel not only the presidential race slipping away but the Senate too..
*sigh*
This is what you get when you nominate someone like Romney.
Is he even TRYING to win?
That’s what I’m thinking.
lol
even if we had super majority in the senate... there is ZERO chance they would stop an Obama nomination to the court.
yeah... they would through a good show trial, and let a few die hards vote against them just to placate us, but in the end the nominee would be appointed.
Nelson ad: Mack is a party boy who does not show up to vote and he passes laws that take your money.
The Mack ad? Well I have only seen a couple, yet Nelson ads calling this guy a useless playboy have been running for months...hence Mack is losing.
I figgure hes probably a RINO, I really dont know
All he has is a famous name, a pretty face, and obviously no money for TV ads or lousy campaign manager or all of the above.
Freegards

Nelson has been running some vicious ads in recent weeks, and Mack only now seems to be getting his ads out.
Mack needs to get out and get active....and also the GOP needs to get behind him. The GOPe were the ones that pushed for Mack...but seem to be squirrely now towards him. Nelson is such a goofball....Mack should be taking advantage of that
Probably the worst news out of all this is that Marco La Raza Rubio got a “bounce” from the GOP convention. Cannot believe people still think Senator DREAM ACT Amnesty is a “conservative”...egad
It’s not Romney, it’s America. Romney has it exactly right. We passed the tipping point. A majority can now vote themselves more of the minorities money. And that’s exactly what they will do. Romney may win and slow it down but the direction is clear. European socialist state but with American urban decay. Bad juju there amigo.
I’m getting exhausted hearing about how every.single.poll. is a lie. I mean can ONE show ANY good news for us? Just ONE?
SHeesh.
We’re losing and people here are in denial. We can still pull this out it’s about six weeks left but it’s not looking so good. Where are the sound bites every day from Romney about this economy and the big Obamacare tax expanding to millions more than originally thought? All I see and here is nothing.
The gas prices are high, food prices, more taxes, more debt, higher unemployment, and this country is ready to send this man back to “Finish what I started”...really?
Just damn.
People in FL think Nelson was an astronaut, and nothing else matters to the uninformed there. It will be funny to see them bring back Crist with a “D” in 2014.
You’re right, and there is a good chance that McC, Cornyn, and Hatch would also forbid the “show trial” in the name of “fairness.”
