INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Prosecutors in Indianapolis say a gun store employee who fatally shot a customer who had shot him first acted in self-defense under Indiana law and won't face charges.

Armed criminals in gun shops are exceedingly rare. Notice that AP refers to the assailant as a "customer" rather than an assailant, aggressor, bushwacker, or assaulter.

He was a customer. They were having a dispute over the customer's shooting range bill.

The owner of this gun store is a big liberal democrat (in both senses of the word). He want’s gun shows shut down and lobby’s the state government to go after his competition. Don, of Don’t guns, is dirty.

Local rumors say he was once associated with the mob in Chicago. Some even say he was a thug and/or hitman in his youth. Whether any of that is true or not, the gunstore owner, Don, is a SOB.

That said, I’m glad the employee will recover and am also happy the bad guy is dead.

Where did you hear that? Not something I’ve seen in any reports I can find. From what I’ve read he snuck a loaded firearm into the store after being in the firing range. It is against the stores policy to have a loaded gun in the store. They said he went from the firing range, walked into the bathroom and washed his hands then walked up to the clerk and started shooting without saying anything.

After I saw the initial article on the local news I searched the guys name. Brian C. Wayner is not a common name (I think I got about four hits). There was only one I could find in Indianapolis and oddly enough his name also appeared on Change.org - an account that was a year old.

It's in the linked story.

All I see is the following sentence:

"Davis has said Chance was shot after presenting the customer with his bill for using a shooting range."

It does not say that there was a dispute about the bill. It is possible, but it could be simply a reference to the chain of events.

I’ve lived in Indy since 1994 and I’ve always heard that Don;
a) was a numbers guy/racketeer.
b) did not posess the FFL for his stores (his wife, then his daughter) because of his legal troubles. He had to give up the license, which is very common.

Either way, I’ve been to the West and North side stores and they were populated with thieves and scumbags, and that’s just BEHIND the counter.

Multiple shootings at that store (including the murder of an employee a decade+ ago) and somehow Don is never there. Pity.

I had to chuckle when they had Don interviewed on local news. Whatever version of the story that Don told best fit his agenda. It’s the only way the man operates and may or may not be the truth. It makes no difference to him and he has no issue with what the whole truth is either way.

His callous comments were in support of his employee as they should be, but he took the opportunity to spew a bunch of anti-2A BS about govt regulations and how is employee was trained “by him” for such events and he did exactly what he was supposed to. “He killed the guy.” That’s what he said.

Wow - I would have never guessed he was so hostile to the 2A as a gun store owner. Seems.... counter intuitive. Regardless - we used to crack up at his ads when I was a kid. Moved away for 16 years and frankly I’m surprised he’s still alive.
