by Michael Patrick Leahy 24 Sep 2012, 7:43 AM PDT

Speaking to Boston's 96.9 FM radio program "Jim and Margery" on Monday, Democratic Senate challenger Elizabeth Warren admitted that she is not licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.

According to reports from listeners, she claimed that she does not maintain a law practice. She also "said that she gave up her New Jersey license because she could not keep up with the Continuing Education requirements," according to one listener who commented on Breitbart's Monday story, "Does Elizabeth Warren Have a Law License Problem?".

Ms. Warren's statement comes as a surprise to the many clients she's provided legal services to over the past decade.....

Most people go to jail for that,oh wait she’s a democrat it’s ok.
Democrats are above law and taxes.

The New Jersey CLE requirements are not that bad: they require only 24 hours of CLE every two years of which 4 have to be in Ethics (snicker).

Many of these online courses allow you to go straight to the exam. If she did that, and passed each test, she could satisfy the entire requirement in four hours +/-.

CPE for lawyers & CPAs is a highly profitable cottage industry.

Actually, she may technically be a “Doctor of Law” ie JD.

Nothing technical about it. If she completed law school, she should have received a JD.

A friend's ex has his law degree (JD), but never passed the Bar in any state. Yet he managed to work as a lawyer for the Department of Labor for many years investigating pension plans, IIRC. He never litigated any cases, he merely did the leg work and wrote his reports that others in the department might act upon.

Some law schools award an LLB (Fellow of Law) degree instead of the JD. ;-)

How does one legally run their law office out of their Harvard office? I’d like to see her tax returns for those years to see if she took business deductions for the college space she used to run her practice from.

A Republican would be under the jail at this point.

"She has refused to provide a client list/cases so we can not tell if there any Massachusetts cases."

The article I read said she used her Harvard law office address in briefs she filed when she represented Travelers and other insurance companies in court over an asbestos-related case. The case lasted for three years, and ended with a Supreme Court win for Travelers. Here's the link to the article I read:

"Scott Brown should take her to the woodshed."

He supposedly did. I didn't watch it, but there's a video at the site of the story I linked to farther down this thread.

Those CE’s, the lawyers go to some fancy smancy seminar in a really nice vacation local (I know, I worked for a lawyer, and attend a seminar. Voila! CE requirements met, tax deduction, and a great vacation.

Several years ago I went to a science fiction convention in Chicago. I went a day early because the Science Fiction Writers of America had organized a seminar on Copyright Law, obviously of interest to us writers. To my surprise it was also attended by a bunch of lawyers, not SFWA members, who got CE credits for it. No skin off my nose. I learned a lot and got some nice reference material. So, I'm satisfied I got my money's worth. But it did seem strange that the legal types could get CE credit for it.

Those were federal cases and it is not considered practicing law in Mass. if she has a license in another state and is admitted to that districts bar. States do not control what happens in federal courts. At least that’s my understanding and why I asked the question. She would need a Mass licence if she did or supervised legal work in Mass. On a case by case basis with the courts prior approval in each case she could practice law in Mass using a license in another state but there would be a record of the filing and court approval. If she supervised students handling a Mass case she would need a Mass license. If she did not have one when she supervised students I wonder what effect it would have on the cases and students law licenses sine the were also practicing law in Mass without a license even if they were misled by their professor.

-—— If she was paid money due to representing herself as a lawyer, isn’t that illegal??? This headline should more correctly read Elizabeth Warren Guilty of Fraud.-——

But will AG, Martha Coakley, Brown’s opponent in the previous election, prosecute her? < /rhetorical question>

Lawyers take care of themselves pretty well. In probate cases, they get paid FIRST. Had a nice, tidy law lobbied by them passed.
