TAIPEI Taiwans Foxconn Technology Group, which assembles Apples iPhones and makes components for top global electronics companies, closed a plant in China on Monday after about 2,000 workers were involved in a brawl at a company dormitory.
It was not clear how long the shutdown would last at the plant, which employs about 79,000 people in the northern Chinese city of Taiyuan, while police and company officials investigate the cause of the disturbance.
Foxconn said the trouble started with a personal row that blew up into a brawl. But some people posting messages on a Twitter-like site said factory guards had beaten workers and that sparked the melee.

Foxconn has their employees working in slave labor conditions.
They actually don’t create any jobs. Their a contract manufacturer.
I, and the company I work for, compete with companies that use Foxconn. So, that means Americans here are competing directly with Chinese slave labor.
We’ve been told here that any positions which are eliminated will be filled in China. We’ve also been told that there are 500 reqs to fill in China. That means that jobs here are moving over to China due to lower labor costs.
You can easily see that the long term management and ownership strategy is to reduce the number of positions here and ship them to China.
I cheer these people when they strike or riot. It means that, eventually, Chinese labor costs will have to go up. It won’t happen any time soon, but it’s better for us in the long term.
And at some point, these labor interruptions will become a factor in starting factories in China.
Better yet, increase use of robots and move production back onshore.
I’m guessing that if iPhones were assembled in the US, they might not cost any more than the current Chinese version, but Apple wants to show their liberal side and that “they are citizens of the world”.
HERE is where unions began in our country and how they can help China- but in the USA they have long since outgrown their usefulness and are now as evil as what they were created to fight.
Fine by mean, I dont have any Apple product and I doubt I ever will.

Like you I have never owned an apple product because I shop for best value and apple is a botique item... I do however see that they build an outstanding product..
Ok thanks for the info, its just that when the media is against something I automatically figure whatever they are against must be doing something right.
“company dormitory”
Isn’t that like the line of cabins that sat out back of the Big House in the Democrat run Old South?
Very similar. Most of the factory workers in China are from small villages and are housed by their employer.
Only if you shot any and every liberal union puke who came within a mile of the factory or any of its workers.
