Something that should be considered - if marijuana *is* legalized, most liberals would end up stoned in their parents’ basements when not forced to work and they wouldn’t be bothered to vote.

Something to think about.

Doesn’t Colorado have a state lottery with which to build schools? That’s a joke folks. Every state that has a state lottery, justified it by saying the proceeds would “go to education”, yet another joke.

Lotteries are a tax on poor people and the mathematically challenged.

Instead of governments (federal, state, and local) looking for ways to pull even more money out of us, how about they quit wasting the already significant amounts of money they are getting?

Don't accuse me of being against education, I have three college degrees and I'm currently in a continuing education class. That kind of personal attack is what liberals use to deflect the debate away from the real issue. There are certain things we look to our governments to do, and many many things we wish they would stay the !&_+<@ out of. They cannot tell me some worthy activity is on the chopping block unless I surrender more of my money, freedoms, etc. Not while they continue to squander our resources. Every time they try to sell that line of BS it is time to make a change, put in people with better judgment and priorities.

So what will prevent people from growing their own to (1) avoid the tax and (2) avoid having to go out and purchase it in the first place?

Besides, it’s a dumb idea to give the gov’t an additional source of revenue.

Make pot legal and build schools with the first $40 million in proceeds.

Well that's the claim but despite all the taxes I pay now, the schools still say they need more money. Tomorrow morning I get to go vote against giving the local school more money for the "needed" practice gymnasium.

Obama will not allow legalized marijuana. His feds have been cracking down on it.

And what stops the government from stealing the school money from the pot tax?

It kind of makes sense - smoke an illegal drug and build little junior state prisons with the proceeds...

We do have proof that the U.S. government is inept when it comes to the world's oldest profession (other than that of politicians). The Mustang ranch was opened in 1971 by Joe Conforte as Nevada's first legal bordello. The IRS seized the Mustang Ranch bordello in 1999 from Conforte for tax fraud, racketeering, and other crimes.

The Feds sold off the Mustang Ranch in several auctions, but at a financial loss. The Feds could not make a profit in the prostitution business!

Bureau of Land Management sold off the bordello's paintings, furniture, and appointments in 2002. BLM conducted the final auction on eBay in 2003 and Lance Gilman purchased the Mustang Ranch buildings for $145,100. Gilman paid 10 cents on the dollar, and moved the buildings five miles down the road to his Wild Horse Adult Resort & Spa. The additional buildings were back in business by 2005. [In December 2006, a federal court awarded Gilman exclusive use of the Mustang Ranch name.] The Mustang Ranch Brothel [Sparks, NV near Reno] has been quite profitable in private hands ever since.

Now, do we want state government to push drugs for profit and finance education? Have certain folks in Colorado lost their minds? The War on Drugs is stupid, but the state wanting to become the drug dealer of choice “for the children” is total lunacy. Colorado bureaucrats can barely run the DMV and there are those who think they can pedal dope at a profit?
