Rather than spend two days in in-school suspension for allegedly letting another student copy her classwork, Taylor Santos, a well-regarded student and athlete at Springtown High School, near Fort Worth, Texas, chose to get paddled.

Anyone who chooses to physically hurt anyone else’s children deserves to be stood by a wall and shot. The school is not the judiciary. All infractions must be addressed in a professional manner, without any physical attacks by unauthorised personnel.
I guess it comes from not wearing rose colored glasses.
But like you say, YOU will never understand.
Actually, there is a policy that only the same-gender adult may conduct a spanking.
Here is a link to the Springtown ISD board policy on student discipline, and the relevant section of the policy:
“Corporal punishment shall be administered only by an employee who is the same sex as the student.”

The parent is right. The principal violated her daughter.
Even then, ya don't have adult male school employees spanking little elementary school girls.
It's no secret, the government public schools are teaming with perverted sadistic freaks. Not a week goes by without another perverted public school teacher found going after the kids.
A male adult, spanking a high school sophomore girl?
This is off the charts.
They're just idiots.

As a high school teacher, I agree. I am sorry, but many of these high school girls could easily pass for college age in many cases. And there are some real pervos out there. Better safe than sorry.
I agree - and I'm recalibrating my opinion to "no spanking except by parents." Yes, undisciplined children cause a lot of problems, but they have to be the responsibility of their parents. If the parents don't want responsibility, make it worth their while. "We're sorry, but your child may not attend this institution unless his behavior approximates our standards."
Another term for "sophomore high school girl" is "grown woman." This should never have happened, unless someone also spanks teachers who cheat (/s). Schools don't want to impose consequences that will affect the student's future college admissions, but those are the only ones that matter, in many situations. A few object lessons, pour encourager les autres, would make a big dent in a school's cheating problem.
You bet.
To be honest, even as a Dad, there is no way I’d be spanking my daughter who would be old enough to serve in the military in less than two years. There are many other ways to deal with issues as they get older.
You might want to read the article again:
"The vice principal added that he had no idea about the same gender swatting, Jorgensen said.... Butt according to WFAA, Kelley is going to ask the school board to abolish the same gender policy, since adhering to it can be difficult on some campuses. Jorgensen told WFAA that she will be at the school board meeting to encourage them not to abolish the same-gender policy.
"I think Taylor is proof that we need to keep that policy," she said. "I don't believe a man intentionally meant to do that to her, but it still happens, because men are too big and strong to be hitting 96-pound girls."
America needs to get it's head out of its ass and WAKE UP.
And ride these DAMN public education employees out of town on a RAIL.
Same here. Mr. Milby’s paddle had holes in it about the diameter of golf balls. One time was all it took to convince me that I did not want a repeat visit.
My take on this whole thing is:
1 - we need to get rid of public schools in the form they are in now. Privatize as many as possible, let the states/counties/towns be responsible for the rest without ANY fedgov involvement. You pay for the school your child attends; or maybe institute a voucher program. This will give more power to the parents and make schools competitive.
2 -That said, this is the will of the voters. The majority of the states have banned spanking in school. This state and others have voted to allow it and have repeatedly struck down attempts to ban it. I'm happy that the voters at least have the choice and Nanny fedgov hasn't came in and said they know better than the parents/voters.
3 - I believe in spanking. I spank my own kids; they don't need spanked in school. If it were my child, they would've taken the suspension and gotten the spanking at home. However, if the parents agree to it they shouldn't turn around and say he hit him/her too hard just because their bottom is "fire-engine" red; black, blue, yellow - well then there may be a problem. I'm guessing the mother has never spanked her child before. Spanking isn't just a love tap on the rear-end, it is a warm reminder that you screwed up. Over the next day or so, she'll remember cheating is wrong each and every time she sits down. I'm guessing she won't assist others in cheating ever again.
Sorry, but if the girls in these three examples had the crap beat out of them once or twice, maybe they wouldn't have done this:
TPD: Girl Pulls Gun in Fun Station Brawl, 7 Teens Arrested
You sure are quick to defend government union thugs. Do you likewise defend puppy-shooting cops?
BinaryBoy did not say he was against discipline of children. He said it is problematic when corporal punishment is done by low-life government workers who are drunk on their authority.
Or maybe you think government is the ONLY source of child discipline.
If any union thug state employee had ever put his of her hands on one of my daughters, I’d still be serving time for my response. These are government employees and not among the best or most trust worthy.
Texas Education Code, CHAPTER 37. DISCIPLINE; LAW AND ORDER
Excerpt.........Sec. 37.0011. USE OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT. (a) In this section, "corporal punishment" means the deliberate infliction of physical pain by hitting, paddling, spanking, slapping, or any other physical force used as a means of discipline. The term does not include:

(2) the use of restraint as authorized under Section 37.0021.
(b) If the board of trustees of an independent school district adopts a policy under Section 37.001(a)(8) under which corporal punishment is permitted as a method of student discipline, a district educator may use corporal punishment to discipline a student unless the student's parent or guardian or other person having lawful control over the student has previously provided a written, signed statement prohibiting the use of corporal punishment as a method of student discipline.
(c) To prohibit the use of corporal punishment as a method of student discipline, each school year a student's parent or guardian or other person having lawful control over the student must provide a separate written, signed statement to the board of trustees of the school district in the manner established by the board.
(d) The student's parent or guardian or other person having lawful control over the student may revoke the statement provided to the board of trustees under Subsection (c) at any time during the school year by submitting a written, signed revocation to the board in the manner established by the board.

What other alternatives were offered? She didn't want to miss any classes. I wonder what other choices he offers the young ladies at this high school?
What is wrong with extra home work, after school cafeteria clean up duty, or after school campus clean up assignments? Did the people of Texas never hear of detention rooms, etc?
An adult male public school employee spanking a young woman, old enough to serve in military in less than two years, is just plain 100% nuts.
This is not legitimate or somehow OK and there is no way to rationalize this.
