NEW YORK (AP) -- A man who was mauled by a tiger at the Bronx Zoo is facing arrest after telling investigators he wanted "to be one" with the 400-pound beast, police said Saturday.
David Villalobos also claimed that despite his serious injuries, he was able to pet the tiger before zookeepers came to his rescue, said New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne.

This reminds me of an incident at a zoo up in Alaska someplace. It was at least a decade ago, probably longer; but, some tourist decided to get "closer" to the polar bear and climbed over the fence. Well, the polar bear got real close, to the point where he got the guys shoe. There is a picture of the bear with the shoe dangling from his mouth. I had a friend at the time who's husband worked in Alaska (he was a doctor) and she had bought a sweatshirt with that photo on it and the caption: "Send more tourists, the last one got away."
Some people just don't think about consequences before they act.

Another near tragedy at the Zoo many years ago when a family visiting from Prague didn’t notice that their little boy had managed to get inside the Bengal Tiger Cage, by the time the staff got into the cage, the boy was missing, and the food that had been left for the two tigers (one the father, the other the mother) had been untouched.
A couple of tranquilizer darts and they took both tigers to the hospital, explaining to the surgical team what had happened and that they were afraid the little boy was running out of time, but they didn’t know which tiger to operate on, and if they chose the wrong tiger, it would be a fatal mistake.
The surgeon without hesitation said “the boy is in the father tiger, open him up!” and the team swiftly made a large incision and lo and behold there was the little boy, unconscious but alive.
The other doctors and the zoo officials were amazed and said “HOW did you know which tiger to operate on?”
The surgeon said “after 20 years as a doctor, I can assure you that the Czech is always in the male”.

I had the same thought...the number of individuals awarded SSDI or SSI has skyrocketed under Obama. Thousands of baby boomers who worked for 40 years suddenly find themselves out of a job, and voila, they “discover” a disability to boost their monthly check.
And sadly, it’s not just people bilking social security. Drudge has a link to a story that one in five female vets of Iraq and Afghanistan has been diagnosed with PTSD. Obviously, that total includes a number of women who are genuinely suffering from post-traumatic stress, but it also includes women who are trying to jump onto the gravy train.
Of course, men are guilty, too. Lots of rear echelon support types who never came close to combat (or a stressful situation) who are filing claims and receiving benefits.
Meanwhile, their claims clog the system and that delays decisions for thousands of vets who are actually suffering from PTSD and deserve their benefits. The VA is an absolute mess, in many respects. The Post 9-11 GI Bill, for example, has become a $15 billion a year boondoggle, with an 88% drop-out rate among vets who become full-time students.
And I'll bet you aren't the least ashamed.
