The nation is closely watching the U.S. Senate race in Missouri that pits Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill against her Republican challenger U.S. Rep. Todd Akin. The two will face off for their first debate today (Sept. 21) at 10:45 a.m. in Columbia, Mo.
McCaskill, 59, is seeking her second six-year term in the Senate after previously serving as state auditor. Akin, 65, is challenging McCaskill, rather than seek re-election to the 2nd Congressional District in St. Louis, to which he first won election in 2000.

The race shot into the national spotlight last month after Akin remarked to a local television reporter when speaking about abortion that with a legitimate rape the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.
He has since backed off the statement saying that he misspoke, but has rejected pleas from Republican leaders to drop out of the race. Republicans were hoping to unseat McCaskill in November, bringing them one step closer to holding a majority in the U.S. Senate.
Not all Republicans have shied away from supporting Akin. Former presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will be in Missouri on Sept. 24 at a fundraiser for Akin. The $500-a-plate luncheon will be held at Trattoria Branica restaurant in Kirkwood. The invitation-only event is expected to be a small gathering of about 100 people.
I think Todd Akin was the choice of the people in Missouri and Todd Akin has publicly apologized, Gingrich recently told ABC News. I just think people ought to be a little cautious about saying the voters of Missouri dont count.

That’s what I have on turned all the way up but no sound. Maybe speakers on the fritz again! Dang!
And like a gentleman, Akin holds his hand out and lets Claire leave the stage first.
The “conservatives” on twitter were saying Akin was bombing this debate.
Well, that was an exercise in futility. Just tell me if Akin won. I’ll be happy.
McCrakel was nothing but a witch throwing insults at Todd during the whole debate and with no substance. Todd stood his ground and presented his arguments in a relaxed but forceful manner with substance. His knowledge and experience of how Congress works really came out. I’m proud of the candidate we have running against the Obama clone. Today was a new beginning for victory come Nov. 6th. The next Senator for Missouri will be Todd Akin. Bye,bye McCrakel. Your term is up.
Yes, she voted for Obamacare.
We hounded her at all the town hall meetings and she still didn’t listen to us!
She also said at one of those meetings that we could fire her if we didn’t approve of her performance...

I intend to take her to task on that one!
Cheers
Amen to that
All Missourians who are interested in helping Akin can call the MO Republican Party 573-636-3146 and tell them to release GOP funds to support Akin’s campaign.
You’re right; the American people aren’t very smart. Any teacher can tell you that in a moment of candor. But there is always the “talented tenth.”
McCaskill was the 60th vote that put Obamacare over the line to pass. Her vote was the one that did it.
“Todd has the fire in the belly today. He is really coming on strong. Rove must be crying a river right now. This is awesome!!”
Hehehehe. Exactly what I was thinking. Rove is the epitome of what is wrong with the GOPe.
We’re all on Romney about this campaign but I think the GOP is the real problem on all fronts. They don’t have any signs for us in Bucks County, PA and when my friend went to their office the second time to ask, it was closed. I’m not seeing any ads from them, what the hell are they doing to win these elections?
And they have no right to turn on any candidate or to withold funds for any reason. I saw the Mentalist last night and he said something “No worse tyranny than petty tyranny.”
How true.
Why can’t Akin do a money bomb? I bet the ole GOP guys would be shocked at how much he made.
Same here in Missouri. I had to go to cafepress.com and order my stickers. And they don’t cheap. Been driving around and haven’t seen any other cars with them except mine. Really weird.
Think the GOP leadership is the ones who dropped the ball. That will be my next phone call to let them know what a useless piece of crap they are.
What a time to get stuck with a bunch of losers at the top of the party. Not fair to the people, just not fair.
