And if they paid Kaine’s minimum tax, they’d get more government benefits to help them cover it.

This really IMO is an unproductive focus for small-government conservatives.

Didn’t Michelle Bachmann say that during the debates awhile back?

Methinks one SHOULD be able to live here without taxes. In the home of liberty and freedom, the option of freedom from taxation should be possible.
Income tax? No income, no tax.
Property tax? That’s not a tax, that’s _rent_; if you own your real estate, you should OWN it - meaning you keep it regardless of whether you pay protection money for it.
Sales tax? Staple foods, and comparable other raw materials, should not be taxed.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not favoring the “47%”; they’re working a broken system.
No refundable tax credits.
No welfare, save for true “through the cracks” cases.
No subsidies.
Eliminate enough waste of tax revenue, eliminate enough “redistribution”, stop playing “world police”, and the need for taxes at all nearly evaporates.
Recognize that basic existence should not have to pay tribute money for continuation thereof; if you’re functioning at the bottom 5% of incomes, own what you own outright (no “protection money”), and really take care of your own square foot, the government should leave you the heck alone.

Life should be tax-free.
If anything gets taxed, it should be what really are luxuries.

The Republicans are such fools to allow the Democrats to change the discussion from spending to taxes.

The solution is not more taxes from more people, but cutting government spending at all levels.

If he'd said that to me, by response would have been. "Really? Interesting. What should the maximum tax be?

And if they paid Kaine’s minimum tax, they’d get more government benefits to help them cover it.

But somewhere along the line they'd realize that money they earned is going to someone else who didn't work. That's an epiphany we should welcome.

I’d like to see a flat tax on every dollar above minimum wage. Easy. Simple.

... and would lead to constant demands to raise the minimum wage.

It's better to just have it be like most state taxes, and the social security and medicare taxes: you are taxed a fixed percent on ALL income, from the first dollar.

Not really, if it’s circling back to them.

The original federal income tax was sold because it was going to apply only to the wealthy, it is bizarre to me that supposed conservatives are pushing now to make it more and more pervasive.

I hate taxes, but until we get to a fair tax or flat tax, it’s time for EVERYBODY to pay something.

Once you do have skin in the game, you will all of a sudden become aware of how your tax money is being wasted.

Don't be confused. The answer is in the comment you posted above.

Kaine must be losing to make such a statement. This is also proof that voters are not offended by Romney’s 47% statement.

Progressive income taxes are immoral, imo.

Eliminate the Earned Income Tax Credit for starters.

Otherwise any talk about a minimum tax level for everyone is meanigless.

Remember when Obama was babbling about everyone having “skin in the ganme”?

Of course he didn’t really nmean it but it is a concept that should be implemented.

People who have nothing invented in the federal government will always be in favor of more spending - after all, it’s not their money being given away or wasted.

Absolutely. Everybody should have skin in the game.

I’m not confused. We should be cutting back on federal taxes and spending, not broadening and increasing the same.

Which will NEVER happen, thanks to the fact that for nearly half of the voting public federal spending is all good and no bad.
