A new internal poll by the Pennsylvania Republican Party claims the GOP nominee Mitt
Romney now trails President Barack Obama by a single point.
The poll, conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research, finds Obama drawing 48 percent of Pennsylvanians, while Romney garners 47 percent.
The results will help state party leaders convince Romney campaign officials to ratchet up their efforts in the state and buy vital television ad time. The campaign has not been on the air in Pennsylvania since April.
Though rare for party officials to discuss internal polls publicly, state GOP Chairman Rob Gleason is so excited by the turnaround that he's conducting a news conference Thursday morning to trumpet the poll's findings.
In a just completed conference call with county chairs and other prominent Pennsylvania party figures, Gleason could not contain his enthusiasm.
Gleason was obviously pumped up, said a GOP official on the call who spoke on condition of anonymity. The people who asked questions were excited. There no naysayers. It was all positive.
Previous independent polls have maintained Obama's margin was 8 points, and a Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll released Wednesday had Obama holding a 9 point lead.
But prominent state GOP figures have argued for weeks that their internal polls showed a much closer race.
The shrinkage of the numbers is because the undecideds are breaking towards Romney, the GOP official said, adding that Romney has also been aided by the recent unrest in the Muslim world directed towards the United States
There was also some uptick for Romney as a result of the international stuff, the official said.
How far behind in PA was Reagan from Carter at this point in 1980?
It’s all about Philly
If Mitt Romney wins Pennsylvania, it’s all over but the whimpering and the race riots. He’s up by at least 5 points in Ohio according to my sources. Colorado, Iowa and New Hampshire are going his way and after the SuperPACs are through in Florida, it should swing back.

Indeed it is.
Choice: “Muslim or Mormon?” come November 2012.
Some one should tell the lame stream media and that OBot now on Hannity who is acting all cocky.
Just look at the last 24 hours of news articles about presidential election polling. Either the Obama media is out of their minds delusional or we got it wrong.
Fake poll. PA is a give me to Obama, not competitive.
Does anyone know why Rover’s map has PA as safe Obama, and NH as lean Obama? I don’t think it’s accurate.
Romney should be doing pipeline ads 24/7.
So that we don’t get complacent and slack off?
I’ve seen absolutely NO evidence that Obama is popular here, with the following exceptions:
Black neighborhoods in inner cities
On college campuses
Inside koolaid drinking union halls
I live in a heavily Democrat area and there is only ONE Obama yard sign on my mile long street.
I think the Dems plan to have a Liberal judge toss out our Voter ID law 48 hours before the election and flood the zone with fraudulent voters.
rove is deliberately trying to scare the base into actually getting out and voting. His idiot electoral map is a tactic not a fact by any stretch of the imagination.
Notwithstanding that 1200 coalminers just lost their jobs around here before the latest polls. PA will go to Romney.
Let’s hope so. It’s worth 20. Does it look like the voter ID law will still be in place on election day?
PA Ping!
If you want on/off the PA Ping List, please freepmail me. Thanks!
They must be showing Sean the internal polls that you and I don’t get to see. Notice that Karl Rove, Frank Luntz and that crew don’t seem very nervous?
I witnessed that map and couldn’t quite figure out the leaning colors especially in the South. North Carolina is disgusted with Hussein and showing Tennessee as undecided is ridiculous. I had only a moment to see it on air so correct me if I’m wrong.
BTW Hussein is going to lose both.
