Mitt Romney described almost half of Americans as “dependent upon government” during a private reception with donors earlier this year and said those voters will likely support President Obama because they believe they are “entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it.”
The blunt political and cultural assessment by the Republican presidential candidate offers a rare glimpse into Mr. Romney’s personal views as the campaign enters its final 50 days. Liberals quickly condemned the remarks as insensitive and Mr. Obama’s campaign accused him of having “disdainfully written off half the nation.”
The recordings surfaced even as Mr. Romney sought to retool his campaign message amid internal campaign sniping and calls from Republicans outside the campaign for him to be more specific about how his policies will fix the nation’s economy.
The video clips raised the possibility that his campaign would once again be sidetracked by Mr. Romney’s own words, a problem that has plagued the former Massachusetts governor since his hard-fought battle with Republican rivals during the nominating contests earlier this year. The video of Mr. Romney making the comments was posted on the Internet Monday afternoon by Mother Jones, a liberal magazine, which said it had obtained the recording and had confirmed its authenticity. The magazine said it was concealing the identity of the person who took the video and the location and time of the recording.

Agreed...I know some folks with EBT cards, and they feel humiliated that they would have to take such a handout. They would prefer to earn their keep...do not lump them in with the moochers...

Yes. I agree. If we read the words, we get it, but MAN...are they all over this in the media, message boards, Twitter etc. Romney did NOT need this.

Some on disability are legit, some scams, among desperation due to economy.
If he can somehow redirect it back at the government failed them with policies that leave them disadvantaged due to
governments failure to provide a quality education for all this tax money vs Dog and pony show they put on.
It's hardly a distraction. It's the central issue of this election — takers vs makers. On it turns the question of whether we regain our former preeminence among nations or instead turn into Argentina. The more closely it's explored, the worse for Obama and the Democrats!
I swear that the left has painted evil as good and good as evil. Unlike a non believer... I KNOW how this all ends. I want to make America the best and strongest and most proserpous Nation to ever exist... again... and I will never agree that telling a lie or running from the truth is a winning strategy. Take away the truth and one becomes a democrat.

it won’t get explored, the words will be taken out of context and exploited. This is bad for the Romney brand and will force them to go off message to deal with this.
Maybe. However, I’ve had money stolen from my paycheck from the government all my working life...how about you? They just have to give back what I didn’t give them permission to take in the first place, and I’ll be satisfied.

Yes! This is true. Have you read The Coming Insurrection? It's written by a few French socialists --a sort of manifesto. They clearly state that they feel that the socialists have been given enough time to deliver Nirvana and that they are out of time. They plan on destroying the system and ending the concept of work.
This communist revolution is very different from communist revolutions in recent history. In previous revolutions, work and the worker was, at least, initially glorified.
I think this “leak” might have been brilliant strategy on the part of Team Romney.

This is a great point. I know of a few families that have never taken any assistance in their lives previously, but have had to because of the Obama Economy. There is a portion of the 48% that are content being on government assistance forever. However, I know there are those who don’t want to be dependent and really want a decent paying job.
