During a brief appearance Monday, a boyish-faced Daoud wore leg shackles, an orange jumpsuit and a scruffy, unkempt beard and Afro-style hair.
He’s accused of trying to blow up a bar and liquor store using a car bomb placed in the back of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Friday night.
Though federal authorities haven’t identified the bar, the co-owner of Cal’s at 400 S. Wells, Mike Feirstein said Sunday that he believes his family’s bar was the target.
A federal complaint alleges (Abel)Daoud pressed a “detonator” that he believed would explode the car bomb, killing dozens. Daoud — who worshipped at the Islamic Foundation in Villa Park — had become radicalized online and wanted to join Al-Qaida, authorities allege. He allegedly picked the bar as a target because it was busy and served alcohol, which is against Muslim beliefs.
During the court hearing on Monday, Daoud’s attorney, Thomas Durkin, alleged that Daoud was being held in solitary confinement at the Metropolitan Correctional Center simply because he allegedly holds radical Islamic views, a move he complained was unconstitutional.

Over four hundred persons would have been targeted for death had the car bomb detonated.
The detonator should have been an explosive device itself. We wouldn’t have to waste money on this piece of debris any longer.
He would be a good candidate for Obama’s son.

The photo that you posted is of a different terrorist suspect who tried to set off a car bomb near Wrigley Field.
This case occurred some months ago.
The new terror suspect targeted a crowded bar where hundreds of people were gathered after work on a Friday night in the West Loop.
