Rep. Todd Akins wife, Lulli Akin, says the Republican Partys attempts to push her husband out of the Missouri Senate race over his false assertion that women who are raped rarely get pregnant are like rape itself. RELATED: Akin TV Ad Buy Canceled For Failure To Pay Station
She also believes the GOPs abandonment is on par with the tyranny that launched the American Revolution.
Akins wife isnt the first one to compare Akins explosive rape comments, and the ensuing fallout, to rape: Bryan Fischer said the partys treatment of the embattled candidate had made Akin a victim of forcible assault.
Lulli Akin made the charge in a new National Journal profile, which reveals a family affair of a campaign Akins campaign manager is his son, and Lulli is also a key player.
Lulli Akin says in the profile that she is not turned off by the refusal of national Republicans to contribute money to the race. She says small donations and Gods will will help her husband win:
God can increase, she said, citing the Feeding of the 5,000 a Gospel miracle in which Jesus uses five small barley loaves and two small fish to feed a multitude. The campaign will take small contributions, respect them, and say God, multiply it. Make it pay, Lulli Akin said. It brought us through the primary, same way. Were gonna see it again, because God wants to be honored.
Lulli Akin echoed her husbands disdain for Republican leaders:
Lulli Akin said that efforts to push her husband out of the race threaten to replace elections by the people and for the people with tyranny, a top-down approach. She added, Party bosses dictating who is allowed to advance through the party and make all the decisionsits just like 1776 in that way.
She cited colonists who rose up and said, Not in my home, you dont come and rape my daughters and my wife. But that is where we are again. There has been a freedom of elections, not tyranny of selections since way back. Why are we going to roll over and let them steamroll us, be it Democrats or Republicans or whomever?
Todd Akin said his wifes comparisons to 1776 were a little more grandiose than the way I would say it but he did say that there is a this tremendous sense of uprising I feel among the people I talk to.
Well, Bruner spent a ton of money $7+ million. Mostly he was self-funded. Steelman a good amount, maybe $1 million. Akin, I’m kind of guessing here, since he has only spent $2 million altogether, maybe $1 million. McCaskill spent $2 million in “anti-Akin” ads during the Republican primary (she has spent $9 million altogether). Finally, outside Democrat groups spent $1.5 million in “anti-Akin” ads. (This is the figure that is usually quoted.)
There’s hardly any evidence that Democrats voted in the Republican primary, just a few scattered sightings here and there. Akin won because he was “the true conservative.” Indeed, he said himself he was “the true conservative” as the phrase resonated with his voters. Akin won the primary something like 35 to 30 to 30 percent, a real split of the vote. All in all, he was very lucky. Then he slipped on a banana peel!
With a few million dollars, Akin could make this a race. That he isn’t further behind and is even tied or ahead in some polls (perhaps suspect), with such an avalanche of spending by McCaskill, shows the potential. Obviously, the Democrats are going to spend a lot in Missouri; but, even so, this reduces the amount they’ll have for Virginia, Ohio and other Senate races where we have a fair to good prospects.
And now all you "smart" people are wondering why "47%" is an issue.
I guess you missed the actual question:
“Exactly what was the violation of reasonable sensibilities he’s guilty of, that made him a “lost cause?””
Opining that in cases of “legitimate rape” a woman can ‘shut that whole thing down’ .
The preposterous combover and his idiot wife and his son on campaign payroll don’t help.
He is your candidate, YOU fund him.
His family apparently needs the paychecks.
Take care,
-Geoff
And you still can not quantify his offense.
You just keep trying to come up with new ways to legitimize the emperors new clothes, and get that damn kid to shut up.
As to Akin, the lame brain with the bad comb-over, his offense should be obvious to anyone with a brain.
Can I qualify it - yes - it was idiotic, badly formulated, and had no basis in biology. It is offensive and wrong - thus his obvious need to apologize for it - which he did.
If Akin didn’t think it was offensive and wrong - why did he see the need to apologize for it?
Can I quantify it? Yes - he went from an obvious lead in polling to being well behind a much reviled and weak candidate. Electoral viability went kaput - and supporting him became radioactive as the compliant media attempted to tar all Republicans with his odious and incorrect assertions.
In my 30 years of being an LEO (now retired), I interviewed countless rape victims. Comparing politics to a RAPE is asinine, ridiculous, idiotic, unprofessional and just plain wrong.

I’m surprised it took as many posts on this thread as it did before the single most obvious point to be made in all of this. All that you said it is, it is.
But then, when you put it in the context of her husband’s stumbles over the use of ‘legitimate rape’, and the level of tone deafness becomes thundering.
Then why is it so hard for you to outline exactly why his minor gaffe was fatal to his campaign?
I, on the other hand, know exactly why. People like YOU!
You would rather destroy allies than admit you got suckered into making a mountain out of a molehill, and no amount of "you're stupid if you don't agree with what I can't quantify"ing is going to change that.
And while we're at it, try looking up the word "quantify" before you question anyone else's brain. Showing a result, does not describe the cause.
Yeah, that Sarah Palin. Right out of the Establishment.
There are none so blind as those who will not see. Mr. Akin is a fool, set up by the rats and clung to by the folks who would like to believe he is just as righteous as they. You, like so many others, are projecting your hopes onto a fellow who is merely a dupe, and probably the only candidate who could lose to McCaskill. My support is immateriel to his inability to make sense, and I would look like a fool were I to support a fool.
Your anger is misdirected. Look to creatures like Mike Huckabee to properly direct your stream of bile, for he is the one who put Mr. Akin up for this, and counseled him to stay in when all were crying to get out. This is laid at his feet.
I’m surprised by a guy who is going to pontificate to a woman about “rape.”
I'd say the "47%" proves otherwise....
It was not a minor gaff it was a major one - and the reason it was fatal to his campaign was obvious. It was highly offensive. Do you think the formulation “legitimate rape” is not both obtuse and offensive? Do you think his incorrect musings on women’s reproductive biology was not offensive? If so it says a lot more about you than it does about me. quantify [ˈkwɒntɪˌfaɪ] vb -fies, -fying, -fied (tr) 1. to discover or express the quantity of 2. (Philosophy / Logic) Logic to specify the quantity of (a term) by using a quantifier, such as all, some, or no [from Medieval Latin quantificÄre, from Latin quantus how much + facere to make] Can one reduce Akin’s offense to a numerical term? I think you meant qualify - but going with quantify - I did mention NUMBERS - i.e. he is now losing in the polls. There are no “people like me” there is only me.
I'll certainly agree with that! You obviously lack the liberal's ability to ignore the "rape" shiboleth when it's politically expedient
...or maybe you don't?
I said “quantify” and I meant “quantify.”
I’ve never disputed he made an error. It just wasn’t a big one until you and those like you started carrying water for the left.
Huh?
Ok then. To quantify the idiocy of the statement, I give it a 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. I hope that is helpful to you for me to reduce it to a number.

Do you live in Missouri? Akin was NOT my primary choice. He won the primary. He made bizarre statements regarding his beliefs and abortion to a known liberal planted reporter. And Claire, I have stood against Obama these past 3 + years pounced upon him calling him ignorant. Then the haughty GOP-e decided they would not allow themselves to be tainted by ignorance pounced upon Akin like chickens attack a bloodied chicken and withdrew their political 'life', dollars.
But, if one does a tiny bit of homework Akin had long been a thorn in the side of that BIG spending GOP-e when he would NOT vote for the Bush prescription drug program.
IT is NOT as cut and dried as some of you narrow minded spouters of your personal views believe.
Now you all Akin bashers are about to get a taste of your own medicine given the GOP-e and liberals selection of our presidential nominee, has Akin beat in saying stupid things. See now I consider Romney saying his Bain Capital functioned exactly how Obama bailed out the auto industry on the same order as Akin's beliefs. Well golly gee, that makes Romney what, a flipping liberal??????
Now I will agree with you on HuckleberryHound, he should be making darn sure that Akin's campaign is fiscally sound if he is going to be advising him to stay in given the GOP-e has decided they are keeping their dollars. But I think HuckleberryHound is a play actor conservative, 'HOPING' to stuff his own pockets with financial gains and his walls filled with trophies.
I call Texas home, although my Grandmother was quite possibly the biggest Cards fan I have ever known, simply because in her day, that was the baseball team you got on the AM radio here in Texas...
Huckabee has everything to gain and nothing to lose with Mr. Akin. He woun’t commit a single penny to the Akin campaign, but if he does win, it will all be because of Mike Huckabee. Just ask him...
