CAIROAmbassador Chris Stevens was still breathing when Libyans stumbled across him inside a room in the American embassy in Benghazi, pulled him out and drove him to a hospital after last weeks deadly attack in the eastern Libyan city, witnesses told the Associated Press on Monday.
Fahd al-Bakoush, a freelance videographer, was among the Libyan civilians searching through the embassy after gunmen and protesters rampaged through it last Tuesday night. Al-Bakoush said he heard someone call out that he had tripped over a dead body.
A group of people gathered as several men pulled the seemingly lifeless form from the room. They saw he was alive and a foreigner, though no one recognized him as Stevens, al-Bakoush said.

He was breathing and his eyelids flickered, he said. I tested his pulse and he was alive, he said No doubt. His face was blackened and he was like a paralyzed person.
Video taken by al-Bakoush and posted on YouTube shows Stevens being carried out of a small dark room through a window with a raised shutter and being laid on the floor. One man touches his neck to feel for a pulse. Some of the men shout, God is great.
The video has been authenticated since Stevens face is clearly visible and he is wearing the same white t-shirt seen in authenticated photos of him being carried away one another mans shoulders, presumably moments later. Two colleagues of al-Bakoush who also witnessed the scene confirmed that he took the footage.

Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the attack on the consulate, part of a wave of assaults on U.S. diplomatic missions in Muslim countries over a low-budget movie made in the United States that denigrates the Prophet Muhammad.
The accounts of all three witnesses mesh with that of the doctor who treated Stevens that night. Last week, the doctor told The Associated Press that Stevens was nearly lifeless when he was brought by Libyans, with no other Americans around, to the Benghazi hospital where he worked. He said Stevens had severe asphyxia from the smoke and that he tried to resuscitate him with no success. Only later did security officials confirm it was Stevens.
A freelance photographer who was with al-Bakoush at the scene, Abdel-Qader Fadl, said Stevens was unconscious and maybe moved his head, but only once.
Ahmed Shams, a 22-year-old arts student who works with the two, said the group cried out God is great in celebration after discovering he wasnt dead. We were happy to see him alive. The youth tried to rescue him. But there was no security, no ambulances, nothing to help, he said.
The men carried Stevens to a private car to drive him to the hospital since there was no ambulance, all three witnesses said.

Given that perspective, you would be unable to “know” anything about the world around you.
When they reported in a couple of hours that he had died of smoke inhalation, I knew it had to be wrong.
Considering how the White Hut’s first priority was getting the campaign props (bodies) to the next venue asap, I knew there was no time to pursue anything except what Hussein’s truth needed to be.
God bless ‘em for trying, at least.
Charles, I usually agree with you, but on this point the New York Times does run a daily report on those who have died in Afghanistan. It's on my newstracker alerts from the NYT. Unfortunately, with troops deployed over there not only from Fort Leonard Wood but also lots of local people with hometowns in this area serving in uniform and stationed elsewhere, I need to have that information.
Yes, antipathy. Not empathy. That would be the completely wrong word. Thanks.
The big lie continues.
Yep. And Obamugabe repeated that Big Lie again tonight during his *full hour* on the Letterman Show.
Letterman's audience gave him a standing O by the way...
So true... perfect graphic!
Does anybody know who the fourth man was?
Every time, I hear he Ambassador by name, the 2 Seals by name, and then a "generic" other person - not named and why he was at embassy.
Maybe just a visitor or something, but I never hear the 4th person's name or occupation.
Fourth person's ID just kind of hangs in the air.
Did the others die of smoke inhalation? Where were the other three bodies when the Ambassador was detected?
In photos I've seen, there is no shortage of cell phones - there may be photos or video of events with someone(s).
Moved via private car or dragged to hospital?
Yes, and Obama, too. And a still photo (or video) of caskets. Let's hear Obama and Hillary speak to this.
Looking for their trophy's ID?
The 3 to 5 hours that Obama won’t talk about will come out soon. Stevens was not alive in those pictures even though everybody claims he was. He also wasn’t getting help from those people. Nothing is what it seems. Obama is responsible for their deaths. Sry that is all I can say.
The fourth person was an embassy employee who was some sort of IT guy. He does have a name because I’ve read it, but I don’t recall it at this moment and I am too lazy to look it up. He is referred to as a “maven” over and over again in news stories. As in, he was very good at some internet-based game. He was in the Air Force at some point. He was around 30ish from what I recall. He has a very liberal wife based on what I read of her Twitter feed. And he left two young children.
The SEALs were not with the Embassy at all. They were in country for other reasons. I thought one of them might have been on his security detail, but reports have debunked that. Both former Navy dudes were contractors. The first report I read about one of the SEALs said that he was with a group of contractors seeking and destroying weapons.
The IT guy was talking online with his online gaming friends/acquaintances when the attack started. It makes me think of one of my sons who has the hardest time tearing himself away from one of his online games. They knew an attack was coming, and they sat there. But we don’t know all the story, so I should shut up and wait for the media to tell us what REALLY happened. heh
