In what is perhaps any filmmaker's best-dream scenario, President Barack Obama has issued a public response to the movie "2016: Obama's America" through his White House team. Although the film is criticized on the president's website, co-producer Dinesh D'Souza welcomed the opportunity to talk about the movie's success at the box office even without much media attention or an endorsement from Obama.
"I welcome Obama's critique of the film. He has probably figured out that he cannot ignore it any longer," said D'Souza in an interview published on Deadline.com.
"Obama's response is a characteristic mix of name calling and false allegations. Some of the claims he makes refer to things that are not even in the film. Elsewhere Obama just gets it wrong."
Obama's "Truth Team" blog post last week with the headline, "'2016: Obama's America' is a deliberate distortion of President Obama's record and world view," includes digs against D'Souza.
"A self-proclaimed expert on the President, D'Souza bases the film around his own past works, which were previously described as 'the worst kind of smear journalism,' and riddled with 'lazy' errors," according to the president's website. "The result is what Variety calls a 'cavalcade of conspiracy theories, psycho-politico conjectures and incendiary labeling' and what the L.A. Times labels a 'badly disguised and overly long attack ad.'"
D'Souza told The Christian Post at the time of the film's release in late July that the film is broken down into two parts. "One looks backward into Obama's past and the other looks forward into what we can expect over the next four years. There's roughly equal time in the movie to both themes. The movie is also based on two books my earlier book, The Roots of Obama's Rage (2010), and a new book called Obama's America. The earlier book looks back and the new book looks forward, and the movie combines both," he said.
A dispute over the movie's facts is nothing new for D'Souza, who last week suggested that The Associated Press, a not-for-profit cooperative newswire service owned by 1,500 U.S. newspapers, apologize for a fact check story on his movie.
In the interview with Deadline he answered the question as to how he responds to the claim the film is racist.
"There have been some factual attempts to puncture the film but those I think have not worked. So now we have the sleezeball attack," D'Souza said. "Basically an attempt to blacken my name and imply the film is some sort of a birther type film, which it most emphatically is not, or to suggest that there is some racial element in the film. Whereas in reality I go out of my way to diffuse the race issue to say this is not about race.
"What Obama is about, in my opinion, is he is a Global redistributionist. He's pursuing reparations but it's not racial reparations. It's global reparations for the sins and conquest of [colonialism]," he continued in his answer to Deadline. "So the film is manifestly not racial. Now it does explain that part of Obama's appeal is that he, you know, offers White America the certificate of racial absolution, if you will. That he makes people feel good about voting for him, as if by doing that they are somehow transcending America's racial past. But that hardly makes the film a racial film.
That's simply part of the film's intelligent analysis of what's going on out there."
The movie has earned more than $26.1 million as of Tuesday, making it the second-highest grossest political documentary ever. Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is the highest earner, taking in $119.2 million in 2004.
"The box office success is a reaction to a much larger issue of the American public not feeling that they know their president after four years," John Sullivan, the film's co-writer and director told CP on Wednesday. "We continue to be humbled by the response the film has gotten. Just today we learned of two groups taking out their own newspaper ads encouraging people to see the film. It is this type of effort, where someone will spend their own money to promote '2016' that demonstrates this film is touching a deep chord in America."
“Go ahead. Make my day!”
;^)
It just passed $30 million at the box office.
#5 documentary of all-time.
#2 political documentary.

I havent seen it yet due to budgetary restrictions but I figure as a Freeper I already know whats in there. I do salute and continue to admire the body of work from Dinesh D’Souza. God bless our fellow Patriot. We must rid our country of Obama and as many Democrats from the House as possible. Romney was not my choice but I fully back him to beat Obama. I dont believe the skewed polls, America will go to decide in November and Obama will suffer an enormous defeat. God have mercy on America.
It’s up to almost $30 million and still beating “Lawless.” Go see it if you haven’t. Go see it again (or buy another ticket) if you have.
All that without the free publicity and promotion that the MSM provided to Michael Moore.
If 0bama wins in November, by 2016 D`Souza and other movie producers and book authors who deign to offend 0bama will find themselves having criminal charges trumped up against them and show trials will be commonplace.
D’souza is awesome ! He should have spoken during the Republi cnvention
I just saw it today. I thought I knew what was in it -- I was wrong.
Obama is the biggest threat to America as we knew and loved her that has ever arisen. He has already produced enormous change, and is going to produce more.
The film explains why he hates the US, and how he is going to change us. Without giving away too much, all I can say is there are reasons why he is on this path and that it will lead to the profligate destruction of wealth. Not transfer of wealth to the poor, out and out destruction.
Dinesh D’Souza is a great example of positive aspects of well educated legal immigrants. We can use a lot more of those versus unskilled illegals who end up drawing all kinds of welfare benefits from hard working tax payers.
When I saw it one lady shouted ‘Vote for Romney’ at the end of the film. I shouted ‘Romney-Ryan 2012’ and there was catharsis in the crowd. Some were awakened.. I heard ‘Wow’s’.. Can’t criticize anyone who attends because it shows they know something’s wrong and wanted to investigate.
My wife & I saw “2016” two weeks ago. Worth every penny if you don’t pay $5.00 for a soda & $8.00 for a bucket of popcorn (you won’t get hungry or thirsty anyway, go out for dinner afterward for a lot less).
Nothing in that flick which isn’t the cold, hard truth. If Obama sends his flying monkeys after Dinesh D’Souza, he’s even stupider & more arrogant than we even thought.
Go see it and learn and run up their receipts, this is the cinema version of the Chick Fil-A counterprotest.
The wife and I saw this flick on Saturday past. I thought I knew what this film was about, but.....I was dead wrong. This anti-Obama movie is awesome and....right on the mark!!! You know, there are millions of devoted conservatives out there in America land. I just wish they would get off their butts.... and haul out with the family to see this informative, truthful movie. It nails Obama to a “T”!!! If Obama is re-elected, it will be because some of “our” kindred spirits “bitched”, but....did nothing concrete about it to save our nation!!!
Our country is at stake, and “all” Americans should witness and view this wonderful work by Dinesh D’Sousa. Please get out there folks and support this film and....”Last Ounce of Courage” a movie just released this weekend, heavily supported by Chuck Norris. It is an excellent, powerful, film about freedom, family & religion.
I just wish, I could figure out a way to get “2016: Obama’s America” shown as a special on Fox News Network, say....on a Sunday evening a few weeks out before the election!!! Any ideas, Freepers or Jim Robinson!!! We all need to do something to get our message out to millions of the folks!!! Maybe we can get a rich uncle or kindred spirit donor to bankroll the flick onto TV screens so the entire country can view it!!!
“”I just saw it today. I thought I knew what was in it — I was wrong.””
My husbnd and I went to see it this last week and I felt the same way you did. I didn’t want to know anymore about the jerk than I already did but so many people were urging us to go..said we wouldn’t regret it.
I have to say the very end does hit you right between the eyes with his interview with Daniel Pipes. We walked out with some ladies and talked on our way to the parking lot. By the time we got there, we were in tears. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?
I knew by the time we got home that that man doesn’t give a plug nickel for any program or policy he puts forth as the leader of our country. He has one goal and one goal only. I felt it somewhat BEFORE the movie but it became crystal clear after the movie.
I no longer have to ask myself how on earth he can say or believe the things he does! He DOESN’T. All smoke and mirrors. A certain relief to me in a way. I would hate to think there is really someone that dumb elected as president in this country. A man with a mission and he needs 4 more years to fulfill HIS dream!
My husband and I saw it for the second time today.
“”Last Ounce of Courage a movie just released this weekend, heavily supported by Chuck Norris. It is an excellent, powerful, film about freedom, family & religion.””
I just looked up the schedule for this in our area. We’d been to 2 movies in the past 6 years before “2016” and seeing this and then plan on Atlas Shrugged Part II on October 12, will set a record for us. All worth it - IMO....
