I remember reading something about pre-WWII Japanese referring to China as the mother country when they invaded. Always figured that referred to language and culture originating there in China. Japanese can somewhat read Chinese text because their Hiragana writing characters originated from Chinese. But at some point in the distant past the first Chinese settlers of Japan intermingled with other races to create racial differences, along with a distinct culture. As for what is going on now, pre-WWII Japan thought they would reign as the leaders of an Asian empire against the west; now the Chinese are figuring to have that role. Japan is doomed in that respect, and can't hold out forever against China.
Oops I meant Kanji writing characters being derived from Chinese.
