British Prime Minister David Cameron has made a major cabinet move: he fired his pet cat.
Larry, Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office, has been cat-napping on the job, reports the Daily Mail.
Recruited from an animal shelter specifically for his mousing skills, Larry assumed office in Feb. 2011 and was charged with ridding 10 Downing Street of the pests.
"Larry spends his days greeting guests to the house, inspecting security defences and testing antique furniture for napping quality. His day to day responsibilities also include contemplating a solution to the mouse occupancy of the house," says the website of the PM's official residence.
But his record at mouse catching has been abysmal. He made his first confirmed kill just last month, according to the Daily Mail report.
Olly Grender, from the communications office of 10 Downing, tweeted on Aug. 28: "Just arrived at work Larry the cat sitting proudly outside No10 front door with a dead mouse next to him," and later posted a photo of "the victim."
Cameron is reportedly fed up with the failing feline and has recruited instead Freya, the tabby belonging to Chancellor George Osborne.
Kitty Ping.
If only the Brits would fire their entire, useless government
aww.
Larry has actually been killing hundreds of mice and EATING them; leaving nothing but the mouse whiskers!
I forgot to add a language warning for the Talking Kitty video. The series is so funny I ended up watching all of them last night.
LOL, that kitty not only reminds me of my kitty, but also my hubby and my kid!
Quite possible. Used to have a really badass rat catching cat, regularly leave a trophy by the kitchen door. But never a mouse.
One day I saw him actually catch a mouse, and I was "OK, I'll put it with the others".
"GROWL. This is eats"
Yay for kitties! =^_^=
I used to have a cat name Oscar. He caught something about 5 times a week. The only catch he liked to eat were rabbits. The rabbits were always eating in my garden. Mice and birds were just dropped by the back door. Rabbits were summarily skinned and eaten by that cat.
Do they not have exterminators in England? Or are rodents invading homes considered endangered species?
Exactly!!!
Mice leave you their carcases so you’ll think, good kitteh. But they don’t kill them and drop them all them off at the morgue for a body count, sheeshe.
Did they think to see if there were less rat and mice droppings (with a hint of hantavirus thrown in)?
Hell, if they or their U.S. counterparts were asked to prove what they do, it wouldn’t take a cat or dog’s hearing to hear their whining!
My cats would probably kill and eat David Cameron.
Poor Larry The Cat.
Smokey The Bear is now Smokey Bear.
Tony The Tiger is now Tony Tiger.
Larry will soon be Larry Cat.
So what did they do with the cat? Just kick him out?
The advantage of having a cat is that most of the rodents choose to live elsewhere.
