Reminds me of the time a convenience store wouldn’t take my dollar coin because they “didn’t take Canadian money.” It was one of those Sacagawea dollar coins. I didn’t bother arguing about it but thought that was kind of funny.
I remember those- they’re the same size and colour as a loonie.
I’ve had people (usually teen-agers behind the cash register) try to tell me that $2 bills weren’t real.
I always carry one for good luck. :)
I had the same thing happen. When I said, “You do know that Canadian currency is worth more than American?” she just blankly stared at me.
Sometimes I don’t know whether to laugh or cry...
” It was one of those Sacagawea dollar coins. “
I use those all the time at fast food places, etc.. Lots of fun!
I got stuck with some Sacagawea dollars (change from a stamp vending machine).
It was quite an effort getting rid of them. Nobody knew what they were, and they always had to ‘ask their manager’ before accepting.
Here is a story about around a BILLION of them sitting in a warehouse, because nobody wants them:

I was in Las Vegas, attending a Networld/Interop, the day the government released the very first of the new $100 (big portrait). It was about 7:00am local time (9:00am for me), and I had some time to kill before my first seminar, so I thought I'd play a little blackjack. One of the other players at the table pulled out one of those new $100 bills, and the dealer had never seen one before, so he called the pit boss over, and pretty soon there was this big crowd of people passing around the bill. We all had a chance to look it over, and finally got back to playing after about 15 minutes!

They’ve also been putting out the “Presidential” $1 coins for a few years now. They’re ugly as sin and I bet they really confuse cashiers.
