A mother who says Walmart employees intentionally humiliated her after wrongfully ripping up two of her $100 bills while believing they were fake is taking legal action against the store.
According to her complaint: 'The cashier inspected the $100 bill, turned to another cashier and had a brief discussion, and returned to her register telling Plaintiff that her money was "fake."
'The cashier proceeded to rip the $100 bill in half without performing any counterfeit detection tests. The metallic strip in the $100 bill was clearly visible.'
After marking the bill with the detection pen, revealing a yellowish colour across it, Ms Garcia said she explained to the cashier of that colour meaning it was legitimate, having previously worked in retail herself.
Detained at the front of the store while told the police had been called, Ms Garcia claims that adding to her humiliation, the employees told curious customers in passing that she was busted trying to use fake money.
After two hours at the front, police arrived around 4.15am and proceeded to inspect the bills in question.
Following a series of tests the first responding officer, identified as Officer Edwards, returned to Ms Garcia telling her that what the Walmart employee and manager had done was a 'terrible mistake.
'He then approached the manager, who appeared upset by what he was told by Officer Edwards,' according to the complaint.
After speaking with Officer Edwards, Manager Russell approached Plaintiff and sarcastically stated that the police officers said the money was not counterfeit, though he disagreed.
At this time, he attempted to hand Plaintiff the two torn $100 bills he had misappropriated from her. When Plaintiff objected to receiving torn bills, Officer Edwards instructed Manager Russell to replace the bills he had wrongfully taken and destroyed.

In this case, I am all for the woman- unless there is something else to this story, someone needs to be fired for gorss incompetance
Starting with the cashier- Who trained her to tear up bills she assumes to be fake?
Then the cop shot her dog
Oh man, if this had happened to me, by the time my attorney was done with these idiots, I would be the new majority owner of Walmart.
And the managers dog too. Just for good measure.
I’d settle out of court for 100K. Then go to the bank and demand my payment in $100 bills...then keep going back to the same walmart and and pay any purchases with those bills.
WalmartS seems to have hired all the holders people who previously worked at nursing homes abusing old crackas.
This is one time I’m in favor of a lawsuit.
My guess is she new they weren't fake.
Those employees should be fired and made to pay up.
When I drove a bus I started to see tickets with felt tip pen lines on them. I found out that someone up the line at a depot thought those magic pens would spot anything counterfeit.
Why would the dumbass cashier and manager tear up evidence of counterfeit bills ...
Passing counterfeit currency is a felony....
I never go to walmart myself. It seems to be settling if not sinking though.
The universe of competent people is small. It is even smaller when you don’t pay spit.
She's demonstrating her initiative - hoping to be promoted into management.
knowingly passing counterfeit currency is a felony....
Reminds me of the time a convenience store wouldn’t take my dollar coin because they “didn’t take Canadian money.” It was one of those Sacagawea dollar coins. I didn’t bother arguing about it but thought that was kind of funny.
I try to avoid Wal-Mart. But when I must go ther I always pay with a $100 Bill. The clerks always take out the counterfit pen and stare strangely at the bill as if they have never seen one they probably haven’t ever had one of their own. When they finally give me back my change I do something that really freaks them out. I ask to use their counterfit pen then I use it on the twenties that they just gave me. You should see the looks I get. It’s as if they dont know what to say or do like robots that are not fully programmed. Try this sometime it’s hilarious.
And, again, we hear the interesting stuff from the foreign press...
Same Walmart chain that had a store that called the police on grade school children who wanted to sing a patriotic song? Great PR
Maybe the clerk was planning to make use of those bills later after a session with some scotch tape, meanwhile hoping to scare the customer enough with threats of jail for her to leave without her money. and the manager was just stupid enough for the clerk to think she could get away with it.
