As I reported on Tuesday, Barack Obama has yet to provide an explanation for how he came to have a Social Security number that begins with the Connecticut prefix "042."
Filmmaker Joel Gilbert read the piece. He has been in Hawaii doing follow-up research on his insightful new documentary, Dreams from My Real Father, and he sent me the single best explanation I have yet to see

If Obama simply got the SSN in Hawaii as the result of a clerical error, then why did Obama unlawfully file federal tax returns in Connecticut using that SSN? After all, if he’s never been in Connecticut, then why file his tax returns there? This whole thing stinks, the coverup stories stink, and Obama is the stinker.
Looking at my keyboard, that's not a totally implausible explanation.
Correct. The average person in the street could not care less if Obama was born on the moon.

"Hawaii was and is a corrupt state," Gilbert continues. He was told by retired Honolulu police detectives that in the state bureaucracy, "anything could be purchased, including Social Security numbers." These were real numbers, likely available because the original card holder was dead. The sellers trafficked in SSNs that did not originate in Hawaii. That way, if the person using the phony SSN were ever caught, the crime would be traced back to the issuing state, not the Hawaii office.
Gilbert's theory is that the SSN problem is related to the question of Obama's birth certificate, which is required to get a SSN. Lacking a valid birth certificate, Obama was forced to buy an SSN so he could get his first job at the Baskin Robbins in 1977. In this theory, Obama was sold an SSN that was Connecticut-based so it couldn't be traced back to the Hawaii office.
Great premise for a movie. And it could explain what Pops was doing in all those sleazy bars. But it seems a long way to go to account for things that we really aren't sure are true to begin with.

One possible explanation for Obama to fraudulently file federal tax returns in Connecticut, is that he either wanted to evade NY taxes where he was living at the time, or that he wanted to create a new identity. The SSN was created under the Obama name, and not the Barry Soetoro name he had been using all along.

As I said, this whole SSN thing stinks.
I’ve also read that the CT SSN he officially uses was issued later than 1979-1981, for while attending Occidental College, in California, he used SSNs with the prefix 999-xx-xxxx; these are only used by foreign students receiving government financial aid. Many contend that Obama was then Soebarkhah “Barry” Soetoro, and an Indonesian citizen. He did not morph into Barak Hussein Obama until later, when he was living in NY and Chicago.

In the case of the many anomalies in Obama’s claimed history, without proof of the many convoluted and tortured explanations, the simplest explanation is that he is a fraud and a shyster.

She appears to have confused Yale with Harvard. Yale is in New Haven, Connecticut.

That goes beyond mere clerical error if they reissued a dead man’s SSN #. Of course that’s been a common techique for years in ID scams.
