A Marine spokesperson at the Pentagon denied reports that U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition in a statement to Fox News Thursday.
Pentagon Lt. Col. Chris Hughes told the outlet: The ambassador and RSO (Regional Security Officer) have been completely and appropriately engaged with the security situation. No restrictions on weapons or weapons status have been imposed. This information comes from the Det Commander at AMEMB (American Embassy) Cairo.
The statement came in response to open-source reporting that U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition.

The Obama administration will spend more time and energy finding and punishing the Marine or other insider who let the cat out of the bag than they will tracking down and punishing the enemies behind this atrocity.
Ammo or not, two Marines isnt much of any army against RPGs and others with AK-47s.
Perhaps they may have had a fighting chance if they had been actually f’n armed!
It's truly terrible to believe our military, and especially or Marines have bee compromised. But I no longer believe anything this obamized government tells us. Especially with that idiot Dempsey as CJC.
I do not believe them... I have no reason to.

Why would there be dead Libyans in Egypt?
You need to read more carefully and post less.
I completely agree.
We have every reason not to believe them.
I’d advise everybody to be careful about accusing this USMC Lieutenant Colonel of lying.
Perfectly stated!

“What does the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin E. Dempsey, say? Were Marines denied ammunition for their weapons by the DoS or not?”
The strategy seems to be say as little as possible, get to the weekend (no regular briefings) and then coordinate their lies.
I already hated team kenya but this stuff is despicable and depraved political gamesmanship.
The simple question, that it seems nobody will answer, is were weapons loaded or not? Evasion suggests the answer is ‘no’.
After 9/11 I was put on guard duty at the front gate of Yongson Army base in Korea. I had my M16 but no ammo! My SSG at the the time said, “The terrorist won’t know that you have no ammo”. To which I replied, “They will when they start shooting at me!”
General Dempsey isn’t worth shit and should be courtmartialed for incompetence.
I’ve met North Vietnamese officers, up to General rank, who I would have more faith in to lead me, esp. into battle.
What a sad state it is when I have to say this. My father-in-law was in the Army 75th JASCO at Iwo Jima, served under Gen. McArthur; my father served under Col. Porter of the Chemical Warfare Service; My son fought in Iraq under Gen. Tommy Thompson.
Now look at who we have leading our military - a bunch of mealy-mouthed, politically correct, asskissers and cowards.
THIS HAS GOT TO STOP, NOW!
Where is Chesty Puller when we need him.
It is astonishing that the question is even raised in the first place. Rat administrations are an abomination. That said, I can assure you that if the Marines involved were veteran grunts, they had ammo. Even if the communist “State Department” told them “no ammo,” they had ammo. I don’t know about embassy Marines, but grunt Marines had ammo. Rest assured.
The Marines were not denied the ammo. As soon as they filled out the appropriate form and checked the “dire immediate need” box, their request would be processed.
My uncle who was a chopper pilot in VN told me the story about when he dropped in on a fire base. They were just getting under attack. Guys had no ammo. Why? Because some idiot in Washington figured that the reason for the high combat deaths was, wait for it, because our guys got into fire fights. They strapped up all the ammo and guys were getting killed trying to get those ammo boxes open. My whole family (all military) despised the Johnson admin. and aren’t too thrilled about what’s happened since.
