U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.
Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition, according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.
Time magazines Battleland blog reported Thursday that senior U.S. officials late Wednesday declined to discuss in detail the security at either Cairo or Benghazi, so answers may be slow in coming.
If true, the reports indicate that Patterson shirked her obligation to protect U.S. interests, Nightwatch states.
She did not defend U.S. sovereign territory and betrayed her oath of office, the report states. She neutered the Marines posted to defend the embassy, trusting the Egyptians over the Marines.
While Marines are typically relied on to defend U.S. territory abroad, such as embassies, these reports indicate that the Obama administration was relying on Egypts new Muslim Brotherhood-backed government to ensure American security, a move observers are questioning as violence in Cairo continues to rage.

And the Marines rifle ammo will be kept in storage at the Embassy so as not to offend Muslims....

I know how the military brass think. We were subjected to ammo being locked up in a Conex container by the Army company armorer, when I was enjoying a Viet Nam ‘vacation’ in 1968 compliments of Uncle Sam. Until we were attacked by the VC and had to break open the container!
If this is the case I say Hillary and Obama when traveling overseas should have the Muslim Brotherhood government ensuring their safety as well no ammo for either of them. What makes those 2 more special than anyone else they are just mere mortals same as you and I and only with a title.
FUBO and FUHRC
Now all of our ememies know the embassy guards don’t have anything to fight them with.
Since when does the State Dept. determine whether military personnel are armed?
They trust the MB,more than they trust the Marines.

...Not that our Marines don't understand "fix bayonets"...
(OOooooh RAH!!)
Live ammo is better...
....Easier to clean up afterwards...
Give or take a few special surprises protecting the "last-ditch" defensive position... etc... etc...
Well, them, I am sorry she wasn’t the one who suffered for her actions. SHE has Ambassador Stevens’ blood on her hands.
Basic firepower for the Marines ought to be 30 cal miniguns which can sweep the grounds in every direction, always ready, with sufficient ammo.
And 20 mm rotating cannons on the rooftops to deal with approaching vehicles.
Obama and his hand-picked ambassadors would never condone the taking of a muslim life.
This whole thing ought to be a major campaign issue. But given the power of the Mainstream Media and the reticence of Romney to be a fighter, what do you want to bet it’s forgotten by the public in a couple of weeks?

Can the Marines at least say “bang...bang,bang” like a Bugs Bunny cartoon?
This is nothing new... In the Navy in the early to mid sixties, we stood quarterdeck watches with a 45 on our hip. But no ammunition. This was true for both Westpac and the Med.
Maybe the Social Security administration or Forestry service could be talked into sending a few hundred thousand rounds to our fighting men in harms way.
Assuming there are no unexpected `gray panther’ or bear uprisings anticipated by the administration. That’s asking a lot, I know.
Hummmm, don't know about the Navy you were in but on U.S. Submarines in the '70s our top side watches, didn't have a loaded weapon, but certainly did have a live clip on the belt and available for use if necessary.

I wasn’t in the Navy in the seventies, and apparently you weren’t in the sixties...
Brett Baier reported on this tonight saying that it was not true. Let’s hope he’s right.
