Muhammad Movie Trailer," an online video assault on the founder of Islam, has been blamed for spurring violent attacks on U.S. diplomats and missions in Egypt and Libya.
The violence was real. But its spark appears to have been a mixture of half-truths and misrepresentations designed to obscure the filmmaker's identity and the project's aims.
The most incendiary anti-Islamic language in the 14-minute clip appears to be voiced not by the actors, but as poorly synchronized voiceovers. People identifying themselves as cast and crew members said Wednesday they had been duped. The man who said he was behind the movie and characterized himself as an Israeli-American appears to have used a pseudonym.
In a telephone interview with The Wall Street Journal late Tuesday, a man identifying himself as Sam Bacile, a real-estate developer in California who was 52 years old, said he had made the film. Calling himself an Israeli-American backed by Jewish donors, he described Islam as a "cancer."
A user by the name of Sam Bacile posted "Muhammad Movie Trailer" in early July on Google Inc.'s YouTube, where for weeks it appeared to escape notice. Sam Bacile was also the name provided to a reporter by the Washington-based activist who forwarded a link of the video clip to reporters last week, a first step in bringing it to global notice.

Nonetheless, no one questions an individual's right to make them and rarely does anyone care where they get the money to fund their projects.

Sometimes when videos are bold face lies and deceit, it doesn’t get any ire and angst aroused, when it starts getting close to the quick, the truth, then the blood does boil. Maybe there is truth in the video.

LOOK FOLKS IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE MOVIE IS OR IS NOT, WHO MADE IT OR DID NOT.
What matters is the actions of the thugs that murdered our ambassador and his aides. What matters is that the Marines in Cairo were not allowed to have real ammo, what matters is that we find the bastards that killed our people and invaded our embassy.
The movie is a speech protected by our Constitution, don’t let anyone change the subject.
