Rasmussen: Bounce over, Romney up 7 on economy
HotAir ^ | 9/13/12 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 09/13/2012 12:09:13 PM PDT by The G Man

Half the nation’s voters now trust Mitt Romney more than President Obama when it comes to dealing with the troubled U.S. economy, the number one issue on their minds as they go to the polls.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters trust Romney more when it comes to handling the economy. Forty-three percent (43%) trust the president more. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Although Romney has consistently led the president in regular surveying when it comes to the economy, this is the highest level of trust he’s earned since May when 51% expressed more confidence in him. The gap between the two candidates had narrowed to four points – 48% to 44% – by late last month.

Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans and 15% of Democrats have more faith in Romney when it comes to the economy. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Democrats and eight percent (8%) of GOP voters trust Obama more. Voters not affiliated with either party are almost evenly divided: 44% for Romney, 42% for Obama.

Let’s see where we are next Tuesday or Wednesday. The economy isn’t getting better, and now -bama’s foreign policy has literally blown up in his face. It’s taking some time for the reality of this to sink in for most people, as the media is running cover for -bama. But, the attacks on our embassies are not going away, they are spreading. And -bama is doing NOTHING, just out going to fundraisers.

As it sinks in for Americans that -bama means no international security AND no jobs at home, you will see a sea change in the polls that even lawsuits cannot paper over.

Romney is going to win. It is not necessarily because he is so good but because Obama is so bad. Obama sealed his fate this week. Now that we are going to have President Romney, what on Earth is America going to look like in four years. That frightens me just as much as Obama’s next four years. Romney is very liberal....we will still have Obamacare (maybe different name), we will still be adding to the deficit, we will still have abortion (hopefully he will at leat get rid of late term abortion, but I am not even convinced he is against that), we will still have gay mafia insisting on special interests and he is definitely for the gays. So I ask you what is going to make Romney a wonderful President? Not being Obama is not enough, it must be more than that.

Bet it was an older poll (pre-9/11) that they are talking about now to try and offset the negativity around Obama's handling of this mess.

If the past few days haven't convinced you that replacing Barack "I'm sorry you killed Americans because someone said something you didn't like" Obama isn't enough, nothing will.

And next week O will be up and R down. Polling at this point has more to do with keeping the horse race mentality going then anything else.

Don’t forget the speech to his campaign volunteers in Las Vegas telling them that they are just like the diplomats who lost their lives.

The GOP PACs really need to run that as a commercial.

Like Der Shlickmeister said: It's the economy, stupid.

The Democrats seem to have forgotten this fact. Their convention seemed to be primarily about birth control and abortion.

Maybe they are and maybe they are not

I suspect we are seeing a repeat of 1980. I think a lot of the Obama support is very very soft.

A whole lot of Democrats told pollsters they were for Carter then voted for Reagan.

In a lot of places the Democrat party is a religion. You toe the party line no matter how much you disagree with what is going on. So they will mouth all the party loyalty slogans until they get in the privacy of the voting booth. These are the Democrats that 0bama scorned as “clinging to their God and their Guns” in 2008.

In 2008 0bama was a blank slate who these voters could write anything they wanted on. Now he is a known quantity.

Going to be interesting to see if they show up on election day for O. All the polling is assuming, like they did in 1980, that these Democrats are going to show up and vote Democrat in Nov. Maybe they are and maybe they will not.
