Marine blogs say U.S. embassy did not authorize service members to carry ammo ___ U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.
Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.”
U.S. officials have yet to confirm or comment on the reports. Time magazine’s Battleland blog reported Thursday “Senior U.S. officials late Wednesday declined to discuss in detail the security at either Cairo or Benghazi, so answers may be slow in coming.”
If true, the reports indicate that Patterson shirked her obligation to protect U.S. interests, Nightwatch states.
“She did not defend U.S. sovereign territory and betrayed her oath of office,” the report states. “She neutered the Marines posted to defend the embassy, trusting the Egyptians over the Marines.”
While Marines are typically relied on to defend U.S. territory abroad, such as embassies, these reports indicate that the Obama administration was relying on Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood-backed government to ensure American security, a move observers are questioning as violence in Cairo continues to rage.

I think the reference should be to Egypt not Libya. OTOH, to the best of my knowledge, they didn’t just outlaw ammo in Lybia, they outlawed Marines.

That’s what the article seems to indicate. And I gather from earlier reports that there were no Marines at the consulate in Benghazi, so ammo would be irrelevant there.
I’m surprised Obama allowed them to carry guns at all.

She’ll change her mind on live ammo for Marines. It’ll happen as the crowd is dragging her down the street, and ripping her skirt off. She’ll see Egyptian soldiers in the distance, laughing.
Her mind will change soon, and it will be 15 minutes too late. I just hope no Marine is harmed in some foolhardy unarmed attempt to save her.
Touchy question: why didn’t the soldiers push back? Assignment to do a dangerous job with treasonously negligent restrictions should be refused.
Once again, the Obama administration is guilty of murder . . . buzzard puke is cleaner than these folks.
Let’s try to be fair.
Had the embassy in Tripoli been under heavy guard by Marines, and they’d opened fire and successfully repelled the murderous attack, then the story would not be about the brave Marines.
Instead it would be about evil Americans gunning down peaceful protesters.
Same thing on 9/11. Had the attackers been stopped before they got on the planes, then the story, if there was one, would have been about racial profiling of innocent Muslims.
Egypt Ambassador Anne Patterson has been in DC the last few days. She doesn't care. The Egyptian mob can't get to her.
